Millwright Apprenticeship

Hi,
After 15 years of working in the same industry I’m looking for a new challenge and something new to learn. I’d like to start an apprenticeship in the trades. Initially I was looking at electrician but recently I’ve decided to get into plumbing instead. I’m almost set to apply at ACC for this fall to do the piping trades pre employment program. I’ve applied at many plumbing companies in Brandon and the surrounding area but without any experience I haven’t received a call for a labourer/helper position. I was hoping to get my foot in the door and possibly work my way up. Unfortunately it looks like I may have to take the pre employment program.
A friend commented that I should look into becoming a Millwright. They didn’t know much about the trade but I’ve done some research online and it looks interesting. Are there any Millwrights on EBrandon that could provide me with a little information into this trade?
Will companies hire people without any prior experience? It looks like there’s a pre employment program in Winnipeg for the trade. Do you recommend taking this before looking for an entry level position? What is the outlook like for these jobs locally? Is the only college which teaches the apprenticeship at UCN in The Pas?
Thanks in advance.
