You mention its a shed, so my first assumption would be gasoline or diesel fuel that was being stored and leaked.
In any case its probably best as others mentioned to keep any doors, windows or vents open to stop a buildup.
If its natural gas or propane, is there a tank nearby that maybe has a leaking underground pipe near the shed ?
When in doubt, try calling the non emergency fire department line, they might be able to arrange an inspection and test for leaks or point you in the direction of a department that can.
