Greetings all:  
 
I created this group specifically for freethinkers, secularists, humanists, skeptics, rationalists, contrarians. and people without faith, but also for anyone free of dogmaticism or blindly following herd mentality.  
To discuss issues important to us and in particularly as in regards the Westman and Manitoba, but also Canada as a whole and just in general.  
 
Also, so we might socially network and meet other freethinkers in this area, as there are no organizations or groups that pertain to freethinkers and secularists in this area.  
 
I might note that this group is not a group meant to simply propogandize Atheism or defend it alone. It is particularly meant as a hub for Atheists and also Agnostics and Deists, etc, and/though the issue of religion, faith, and the existence of God can be discussed here openly and freely and without constraint. But the term 'freethinkers" used for this group does not mean "Atheism"{or "Agnosticism" or "Deism"}, it means what it says "Freethinkers".  
 
It means that people can come and freely discuss anything. Though this group is created for this free of faith and dogma and herd mentality, people who have faith or follow dogmas are free to come and discuss and debate with others here.  
STRONG Atheists anD STRONG Deists are welcome, as are theists, but there is a reason I added the pre-fix (Agnostic)before both Atheists and Deists in the group description, as I don't believe STRONG Atheists and STRONG Deists are all neccaserily free of faith and dogmaticism: though they are free to argue otherwise here.  
As I said, this group is about freethought and free speech.  
 
I am a 31 year old freethinking contrarian. My views on the God question are that of both Anti-theism and Deism{or more appropriately "Agnostic-Deism"}. I consider myself a rationalist and naturalist and materialist and also a skeptic{by the way skeptic means to be cautiously open-minded, not closed-mindedly cynical, in regards subject matter for which there is no "proof' for or against yet: degrees of 'evidence" and 'proof/fact" are not neccaserily the same thing}. I also do not see "belief" and "faith" as the same, perhaps I can or will explian further later, don't wish to remable too much here. I keep an open mind regarding some subject matter or things commonly called{mistakingly IMO} "paranormal"- UFO phenomena, psi-phenomena,etc, but as I said I am "skeptical"{cautiouly open minded} regarding some, while other types I think can be shown factually not true, it all depends on what we're referring to.  
The principles that guide me are the enlightenment values/ideals, and above all- reason,  
as Radical freethinker Thomas Paine once wrote "There is no greater weapon against errors of any kind than reason"  
 
Also, I am a devoted metalhead. I am a university student at the B.U.  
 
My sole purpose is to spread and encourage reason, enlightenment principle, and hopefully cause all people to think about things in ways they may not have considered them before, and hopefully learn a few things along the way myself.  
 
That's me in a nutshell, and also the first few paragraphs are what this group is about in a nutshell.
