Evolution vs. Creationism/I.D. in Brandon

Anyone been keeping up with the local debate{in the Brandon Sun particularly} about evolution vs creationism and I.D.,etc?
Any thoughts on this?
It's interesting how this has suddenly become a big issue here? Does anyone know why? Because I'm unclear. Are local creationists trying to get it taught in public schools here at the moment? To my knowledge the public schools don't really even teach much about the fact of evolution for that matter.
