Manitoba does have Manitoba Justice's victims services, which helps victims of crime.  
 
For example if you were the victim of an assault and had your teeth knocked out, you could get your dental work covered through this. Just one example of what this service is about.  
 
I know that's there's a lot of high profile cases that the media takes hold of and never lets go, but keeping the not criminally responsible cases out of this topic, most convicted criminals get punished in one way or another depending on the severity of the crime.  
 
What also has to taken into account is rehabilitation of the offender, many crimes are done in desperation, stealing to pay for drug addiction issues or dealing drugs to attempt to get out of poverty.  
 
Part of the goals of the justice is to break the vicious cycle that led to the crime, by providing the offender with the help and resources they need to be a law abiding citizen.

At this point we can not get the RCMP (not Brandon RCMP...but thevictim is from Brandon) to arrest the man responsible. They keep saying things like "are you sure you want to press charges?" "you would have to go all the way to Regina for court you know"  
"What exactly would you like us to charge him with?" "you must have done something to piss him off"  
 
It's all very retraumatizing when you go to the people who are supposed to help you and are not receiving help.  
 
I called a criminal law lawyer and he is appalled. We may need to call him back but the cost may end up being too much. Again, the victim has to pay with what should be an obvious situation that should not need a lawyer in order for the law to take action!  
 
!!!!!!! It is very frustrating and very surreal. Just because she got away from him does not mean there wasn't a crime committed!!! I don't understand why the victim should have to fight for justice!...and WHY I can not even post this story to eBrandon and warn other women of this situation is also another hit that the victim has to take and possible other women who could be warned of this man!  
 
This was not someone we knew. This was a random act and as far as we can tell something he is very comfortable doing. I feel strongly other women need to be warned and i wish i had an outlet to do it. I will look into getting the story to CTV? not sure how to do all this.

Is there proof of a crime or is it he said/she said. Now I am not saying it didn't happen, but were police called at the time of incident or is it something days later trying to report? Was there alcohol involved, witnesses, were pictures of bruises taken, etc? My buddy is going through a nasty divorce and it cost him over 5 grand to prove his innocence due to her saying a bunch of bad things that he apparently did to her, now going to court for the children he looks like a total a$$ to a judge.

A criminal defence lawyer is not going to be able to assist you in getting charges laid.  
 
Also, since it sounds like the alleged offence took place in Regina, you need to make a complaint to the Regina Police Service. Hopefully they will investigate and determine whether charges should be laid.  
 
If that doesn't work you could try a Private Prosecution.

Yes we have spoke to and are giving a statment to Souris police likely tomorrow.  
 
Yes 911 was called during the incident. Not sure if there was alcohol involved on his part. Definitely not on her part. Also,this is not someone she knew, not a domestic situation...sorry Fishing guy to hear about your buddies situation, people can be so cruel in divorce situations. We have evidence yes and according to our lawyer we have more then enough evidence for the police to have already made the arrest.  
 
This is something that i think should be on the news warning people of this guy who is still out there.  
 
We are told that yes he can and will be charged and yes a criminal law lawyer can and is and will help us. So did victim services. It is just unfortunate that we had to deal with some members of the RCMP who did not and are not taking this offence seriously... for whatever reasons. Hopefully that is behind us now and we will be treated with some respect.  
 
She did not do anything to instigate and as one officer said even if she did he had no right to do what he did....no right at all, but no she was just going about her day when this started happening.  
 
I wish ebrandon would let me share this store with the public as i believe the public has a right to know when a criminal is attacking woman and especially that he is not arrested yet.  
 
This just takes me right back to how the victims seem to always have to fight for rights while the criminal who now 4 days later is living his normal life...hopefully not continuing to go out and commit this crime to someone else.  
 
Also it is the crown attorneys office that decides which charges he get's if the officers can't figure it out on their own.
