I'm having a really hard time finding activities for my children that aren't run by a religious group. I'm ideally looking for something like scouts that teach kids how to help others, building self confidence etc but cant find anything that doesn't have religion involved.

There is a great, friendly and steadily growing Judo club in Brandon. I think there are about 35 members at this point? It is non-profit & is run by 3 black belts. It is for young kids through adults.  
 
Judo is a recognized Olympic sport. It focuses on ground work and throws. Two of our girls were chosen to go to the Western Canada Summer Games this past August and earned medals there.  
 
We are meeting at the Richmond Park M.B. church (no affiliation with the church...it had an open gym we could use).  
 
If you want to see what Judo involves, we meet tonight (Monday) and Wednesday evenings @ 6:30-7:30 (kids class), and 7:30-9 (Adult & advanced class). Come and try it out for free, ask questions, & observe to see if it might be a fit for your family.  
 
Tonight is randori, so you would get to see the judo in action just as if you were attending a tournament.  
 
Maybe I will meet you there?

Just for clarification that might help folks offer suggestions, what approx age of kids are we talking?

I already have my kids in physical activity programs. Was looking for something more for hmm... Maybe philanthropy Is the word I'm looking for?Something to promote self confidence and helping others. Thanks though

You mention Scouts in your original post. Have you tried them? It sounds like it is exactly what you are after. They have a code of conduct and teach cooperation etc., and they give back to the community through volunteering. I joined Beavers when I was 5. I don't know what the actual minimum age is, as one of my parents was involved as a leader so I think I may have joined early. Could be an opportunity for yourself as well.

I want a program that is tolerant of every religion and of people who chose no religion. It's a great program, I just wish there could be something like it that didn't involve religion. They aren't picky about your denomination to be in scouts but according to their "who we are section" you have to believe in a god. And God will be discussed.

I'm definitely interested in 4h for the future but unfortunately their program is age  
6+ and my son is just turning 5 next month

not sure what age but what about cadets, i believe some offer a junior program for as young as 9 and its free, they learn skills help the community and lots of time go to free camps and get free skills training
