With Christmas landing on Friday, which happens to be my payday, does my employer have to pay me before then. Just wondering if it is a law or just s good practice to keep everyone happy.

They have to pay you the day before

I think since banks are closed on the 25th paychecks need to be sent out the day before. It worked that way in all the places I have ever worked before with paychecks and direct deposit.

Whenever a payday falls on a scheduled bank holiday. ie, the weekend or a stat, the pay will show up on the closest regular day in advance of the scheduled pay date.

there is no legislation to make employers pay you BEFORE the holiday, unless you live in Quebec. Hopefully your employer is nice and pays it Thursday.

Before anyone criticizes someone about a spelling problem, it would be advisable to research the problem yourself.  
 
The paycheque is the CANADIAN way of spelling it. Only if you get paid in American dollars would it be called a paycheck.  
 
But people spell it both ways and should not be criticized for what is the correct way. Unfortunately, too much of our education comes from the states.

Employees must be paid at least twice a month, within 10 working days of the end of a pay period. If the employment is terminated, employees must be paid within 10 working days from the date of termination.

I have had cheques in many various currencies, but they were all cheques, because I'm Canadian.

Is it an actual cheque or is it automatically deposited? I would think if it is automatically deposited that it would just go in the normal day.

My husband mentioned that he was told they will receive their cheque tomorrow (as it is the last day worked until Jan 4th) but that the cheque will be dated January 2nd. I guess we will see. The bank is usually open Saturday mornings but not sure if it will be. Could be tight around here if we can't cash it until the 4th as our mortgage payment will come out on the 1st direct withdrawal.

employer is in no way obligated to pay you early, or date your cheque early if your regular payday falls on a holiday. Many do, but it is not a legal obligation. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

We are being paid Thursday since Friday is a holiday. It has been like that for every other place I worked.
