I have a complaint about how some, not all, people use slow lanes. I live north of Brandon and travel to Brandon to work 5 days a week. At least 3 times a week I have attempted to pass a slower driver in the slow lane and the vehicle has speeded up and will not let me get ahead of them in the passing lane. Then when the lane ends they slow down and I can't get pass them. The purpose of the lane is so the faster drivers can pass safely. There was a truck yesterday when I was driving home that was going 90 kms. As I was trying to pass him in the passing lane he speeded up to 110. When the lane ended he dropped back to 90. He did that in both bypasses. I know I'll probably get comments on how I'm traveling too fast etc. but the purpose of these lanes or to make it safer for all drivers.

Must be psychological because I drive that stretch every day and see it quite often. Drivers must perceive that it is safer when you have that extra lane as a buffer for on coming traffic so they speed up. Slow down when the lane ends. That's my theory. I doubt the drivers are being malicious but I do agree it is very annoying.

The drivers that think that they are too good for the slow lane and move over into the left lane, whether someone wants to pass or not.  
 
I've also had issues passing people that go 90 km/h until I start passing them, then they speed up so that I can barely get around them at 110, and then they slow down again after I'm past them, and this is only on a 2 lane highway without the passing lane. It is a psychological thing that people can speed up without realizing it.

love to be in front, had someone pass me on that road pulled in way too close then slam on the brakes and waited to turn left into their yard.

Knows no boundaries! I travel #10 and #16 regularly and have seen this numerous times. I'm hoping that it is an unconscious act because if it isn't, we have way too many rude drivers. The other one that drives me crazy is the car in the passing lane on a 4 lane that never moves over to the right. Pass and get out of the way has always been my motto. When I see a vehicle coming up behind me, I always move over as soon as I can. I also don't take 5 minutes to pass a semi. They may have to move over to avoid something on the shoulder that you are blind to or they also have a habit of losing their recapped treads every so often. I don't want that in my windshield! I'm sure the transport driver doesn't like you where he can't see you for miles either. You don't need to be a maniac, but add a little speed to get by quickly.

Yesterday near Tim's on the hill. Heading south, there was a van in the left turn lane, sitting directly beside the left turn sign waiting at the red light. The light turned green and the van raced across the intersection, forcing a truck in the through lane to take evasive action.  
 
On Tuesday afternoon, at First and Pacific, northbound, I was the fourth of five vehicles. The first two held up the whole group while they were waiting to turn left, immediately beside the sign that says no left turn. The fifth also turned left.  
 
Too many people believe that the rules of the road and signs apply to everyone but themselves.  
 
I really wish the police would ticket these idiots. That may be the only thing that helps them to realize that they are not allowed to do as they please and at the peril of other drivers.

I hope you all blasted your horns at those left turners.

Speeding up in slow lanes is kind of like those drivers who, when passed on a four lane road (1st street, 18th street, trans-canada highway), speed up just enough to ride in your blind spot. They stick like glue - as if they are intimidated to pass but feel the need to pace your car where they won't be seen. I find that very frustrating. I'm a big fan of cruise control - set it where you want it and let other drivers go where they have to.

You are so right SMM, driving #10 north is so bad. I thought those new passing lanes would be awesome! Like you said though, people speed up as soon as the passing lane appears, they go from 90- 110kmh.  
I was complaining to a buddy of mine from Wawanesa and he said it's the same on #10 south. I didn't believe him till this past fall, I drive 10 south now once a week, and it is the same!!!

I come in from the south 5 days a week for work, and it's the exact same situation. For safety you are stuck behind someone going 90, then as soon as you hit the extra lanes for passing up the hill, they speed up to 110 so you have to just about blow a head gasket to pass them, which you SHOULD because guaranteed, they slow right back down as soon as you approach the end of the passing lane! Exasperating!

.. should be taken at 15, 30, 45, 60 and every 5 years after that if you want your pension check.  
 
Simple solution that would clean up Manitoba driving over night.

Number 10 north. Did that drive for years. Sounds like some drivers habits never change.  
 
While I have not driven that route with the passing lanes a habit I acquired sounds like a must.  
 
Be it on the Trans Canada with 4 lanes or two lane passing or passing lanes. I hate being beside a car on a highway. I do not like someone taking forever and a day to pass. So I do not do this same. I pick up the pace to pass. No cruse control pass. If the clown is doing 90 in a 100 I probably pass at near 110.  
 
Passing is one of the most dangerous things when driving.  
 
What annoys me is when after I pass and settle down to my 100 to 108 the clown tail gates me the rest of the way.

I used to be a long haul driver..... my biggest rule when driving a big truck or my car is when someone is passing ME I slow down........... I let the passer pass safety ...and talking about people on the four lanes ........ they pass and then cut in right in front of you ...at night I put on my bright if they cut in too close.......I mean no one else is around so why do they have to cut in? so fast? when I pass if there is no one behind me that wants past me then I wait a long time to cut in front of the driver I passed......... this is common courtesy

I know exactly what you are talking about on 10 north., to me it's common courtesy, if you have a line of people behind you and you are not doing the speed limit then let them pass.  
There is no subconscious speeding up on the passing lanes... If your paying attention to your surroundings you would notice people going to pass and look at your speedometer.  
There is no excuse for speeding up during the passing lane option and then slowing down after, just plain rude.

one thing to think about on top of the fact that people feel safer with widened hiways therefore travel faster is if the driver you are overtaking is doing 90 and you are passing at 100 you are really only going 10km faster, therefore passing at 10km/hr which does take some time,i too slow and help people pass if they want but not everyone is aware enough to do that or even watch their speed while you pass but what can you do  
 
driving is part of life and the majority of the drivers are not out to annoy anyone, just a tidbit to help adjust our perceptions which should help take away some of the frustrations

Where ppl pass u then slow down I put in bright led lights I know it sucks meeting ppl with them but wen you have them on ur side it's really nice on how much more u can see with them but wen ppl don't slow down on me anymore cuz they don't like being followed close with the bright lights best investment yet I think

I love this idea, I think everyone just needs to be refreshed and retaught once in a while! I know I wouldn't mind it!
