I heard there will be a new local source for news posted online at this website.

http://bdnmb.ca/

Looks like it is going live later today. I think this was attempted several years ago when we lost the local tv station. I wish them all the best of luck.

I welcome anyone who aspires to add diversity to the local information landscape, the more sources to compliment the newspapers, radio stations and national reporters stationed here the better!

They had been hyping a launch yesterday which doesn't seem to have panned out. There was a note about a launch that was to be around 4pm yesterday that has since been deleted... Hope everything's alright. Have sent a note offering help if there's anything I can do!

Not very intuitive, I opened and closed the website 10 or 12 times and couldn't decipher what I was looking at, a forum or a massive sized ad billboard ?

Glad they were able to bring it together, it's certainly a decent start. From an eBrandon perspective I look for news stories that might have value in supporting some of the discussions we get into on here. Didn't really see anything at launch that would meet that description but the potential's there to add to what traditional media sources do and will certainly check back in week or two and get a better feel for where they're going with it.

Re columnists, I have a ton of respect for Cathie C and Bruce L and regularly read the stuff they post elsewhere on their blogs/Facebook pages. More from them is never a bad thing.

As for O'Connor, yikes. Not because there seem to still be sour grapes (of course there are) but I honestly only read about half and skimmed the rest. I can't help but wonder if this is an example of someone best served by the word limit boundaries of a printed page. I'll give it another shot in a few weeks, I do know first hand what it's like when the words start flowing and sentences become paragraphs. Sometimes one just needs to reign themselves in... And with that in mind I'd better hit the button and call it a post

I will be honest, having not looked at O'Connor's posts prior to reading your post above, I thought you were being a little bit bitter/short sighted. Then I read O'Connor's column. I can only imagine what you thought when you read this line:

I was pleased to learn there would be no insanely inane chat room on bdnmb.ca with filled with ‘discussions’ that to an outsider make Brandon sound like one big dumb trailer park.

I guess he has a grudge as much as you do!!!

With him being involved on the ground floor, and with him informing the public of who is behind the site, I don't have a whole lot of love to give to it! I will give them the benefit of the doubt and follow the site in the immediate future and see if they can convince me that it is a worthy "news" source.

Couldn't get past the huge Wendy's ad and others to find any news?

Have to admit, I was curious to see if that was the source of the story about the local restaurant that is not allowed on e-Brandon.
Was able to read everything you never wanted to know about James O'Connor.

To be clear, not the source of the restaurant topic... but if I could make a suggestion that would be a great opportunity for a properly sourced journalistic piece for this or another outlet.

HA, wonder what James thinks about us trailer park folk discussing this new venture...giving it attention...how dare we :p to be honest ebrandon is the first I've even heard of this new "competitor" site soooo...

On another note however, I do agree with some other comments of the site being hard to navigate, craving Wendy's is pretty much all I take from it thus far. Will also check back in the future and see how it's coming along

I know! I actually LOL at one part where he wrote about not having to be constrained by a publisher/editor, and thinking, "Ya know, sometimes that's not a *bad* thing...".

Seriously though, good luck to all involved in that new venture. Hopefully they can get some creds to become a legitimate news source, although without a proper editor I can't see how it would be much more than a rumour mill itself.

What a great new idea of having a new online media outlet. I hope my dial up internet in my trailer is fast enough to load up all the pages quick enough.

An editor with spell check would be nice on this site. Perhaps one with a red pen to take Mr.O'Connor down a few run on sentences and paragraphs and useless bunk. But in his defense I did almost read the entire ego-inflated article.

A suggestion to Mr.Wolski. Fisrt of all good luck on the new business venture. Secondly if you are going to have Mr.O'Connor spew out trash, you would be greatly benefited by having a section for people to SOUND OFF, oh wait that is a Brandon Sun thing.

Hmmm what could you do to further benefit your new site? How about putting in a discussion forum? This would be a great source for the people that don't live in trailers to voice their freedom of speech concerns they have with certain columnists articles. This way Ebrandon gets the trailer parks covered, and you will have the elite sophisticated silver spoon fed, living in their ivory towers covered. It's a win/win!!!

There may be no editor and as you can see in his column there was no proof reader either. So many errors with words. I do wish the new site the best, please have someone proofread anything you want to post...nothing says unprofessional, and unreliable more than a news article with double words, spelling errors, missing words, or words that don't make sense.

I had not heard of bdnmb before reading this thread. I checked it out. While O'Conner did allude to ebrandon, I didn't find anything terribly offensive as far as opinion pieces go. As for this thread, it would appear that Adam has relaxed his rules a little based on the fact that it is O'Conner being attacked here. Not saying I agree or disagree, just an unbiased observation.

A lot of the comments on this thread are pretty sad and make the alluded put downs of ebrandon forum users seem fairly realistic.

This is a brand new venture, up for a very short time and many are treating it like it has been a year's long tirade of useless, problematic, egotistical journalism akin to the enquirer.

While not a fan of all those involved with it, I am certainly willing to give it a chance and see if opening jittery nerves are what cause some grammatical errors and the like.

Anyone remember when ebrandon was new? Was it perfect on the first few days? Hardly.

Can Bdn.mb become a true news source? I would suggest the likelihood is certainly greater than relying on ebrandon for news, which is, by and large, a gossip site and should not be given the high praise that many seem to grant it.

And at the risk of being deleted, I have to agree with the post regarding Adam allowing this trashing to continue. You impose rules on many threads and topics that you deem to be inflammatory, yet when directed at one whom it is public knowledge you are at odds with it is allowed to continue.

readability was very bad. They need a disable button on those giant ads. All the dropdowns seem to be blocked by the ads as well. Hopefully they overcome these shortcomings.

Typically, Adam doesn't allow any business bashing but since many of us know the history and this site could be competition, it's allowed to remain here in this thread. What's fair is fair and you can clearly see Adams double standard showing here.

I don't take sides, I don't care what site is ran by whom, what I do care about is reading the news. Which is eventually what I'm assuming this new site will be focusing on. And while the forum here can be nice, most of the stuff here is gossip, drivel and useless info that most people can look up themselves.

It's the first few days and I will give the site a chance to fix its errors and grow. They deserve that. And while I'm not a fan of O'Connor, he calls it like he sees it and some of the replies in this thread have proven his point.

You've misunderstood policy if you are under the impression that opinions are allowed to only be on one side of the coin. I know that we've had run-ins in the past re policy and if you require further clarification on those particular cases please be in touch. Essentially the distinction comes in comments based on unverifiable experiences and comments that are highly personal in nature. While I make no claim to have read every word of every post, opinions I've seen are based on what anyone and everyone can see by checking out the site and then agreeing or disagreeing with as they see fit as a discussion flows. If you ever see a comment that you believe might be out of bounds it's asked that you click on the "report" link to advise.

If you'd like to discuss policy further I'm happy to have a chat via the contact link at the bottom of the page, but it wouldn't be reasonable to allow what's essentially the hijack of a thread on a topic that is fair and reasonable to discuss. If the topic at hand doesn't interest you as far as introducing new opinions/points or rebutting existing ones then its asked that you please check out another thread. Thanks in advance.

I had heard the hype of the site being a news source but I've been there twice now and have yet to read any news. Too bad, I was hoping for another news source.

Had a laugh at this, if you look at bdnmb's Facebook cover photo and recent wall post they have pictures of a fake office. In the wall post it even says "busy day at the bdnmbca office today, new office furniture arrived" however they just grabbed stock photos online and slapped their logo on it. Guessing they are trying to give off a good impression showing a fancy office, but they are clearly fake which makes the whole thing hilarious.
