I realize that some streets in neighbourhoods aren't always well lit for all intensive walking purposes.  
 
However, this evening between 7:38 and 8 pm, I was minding my own business, walking my two small dogs as per usual in my neighbourhood, when I got to the corner of Imperial and Rosser. With all due respect, to the individual driving the white SUV/Van that parked a couple of doors in on Imperial, you'd expect other drivers to watch out for the children you had in that vehicle, yet you came around the corner off of Rosser at higher speed than is required to turn, obviously NOT SEEING ME OR MY PETS, and had I not been paying such close attention, both of my dogs would have been under the front end wheels of your SUV/Van. I motioned with my free hand "like WTF" and for whatever reason you figured a waving gesture would pass off as sufficient????  
 
I'm beyond livid, blood boiling as I'm sure the pet lovers in this world would possibly imagine. What if it had been one of the children you had that were that close to the front end wheels of an inconsiderate driver? Would it suffice to wave at them and continue on? It certainly doesn't suffice where my furry family members are concerned!  
 
Furthermore, children in an accident are covered with a Manitoba Health card and would be in the emergency room should something such as an accident occur.  
 
If something happens to your beloved animal after regular veterinarian hours, you pay EXTREME amounts to have them cared for and hopefully they return home!  
 
It's winter people, and conditions have left roads icy. Take your passengers and pedestrians (with or without animals) into kinder regard!  
 
No, I don't have anger issues! I have issues with and low tolerance for inconsiderate people in the world and stupidity.

Were you walking down Rosser or on Imperial. I would hope Imperial because Rosser has sidewalks. I actually live on Imperial and drive a white SUV but that wasn't me. It's not a very well lit area that's for sure.

Several streets don't have sidewalks so you have no choice other then to walk on street.

but I was walking on Imperial toward Rosser to get to the sidewalk. I took the little turkey trail from Fotheringham to Imperial like I usually always do on my evening walk with dogs. Guess that 'rude' post doesn't want to be part of the discussion?? Hahaha...

the waive wasn't what you wanted and they parked two doors away you could have talked to them and maybe they would here you. instead of trying to talk to them this way.just saying it may have better results

So you have decided not to highlight the error of a driver because they are aware of their error?

Last time I checked jay walking is a crime in Brandon and vehicles are allowed on the roads...

There are no sidewalks on Imperial and MANY pet owners in the area who could all be considered jaywalking on a daily basis when out with their dogs!

For future walks, you may want to have your dogs wearing bright and reflective coats. There is a reflective stripe on a lot of children's clothing and boots for drivers to take notice of. If your pet is important to you then they should be wearing protective clothing as well. Animals can be very hard to see at night. So can adults. Way more times than I can count, have i seen pedestrians wearing dark clothing in low light and expect every driver to be able to see them. Make yourself visible and your pets as well.  
As a pedestrian, you should always be aware of your surroundings (on coming vehicles). Pets should be pulled in close when on road and near corners especially.

no.... jay walking is not a crime. At least not anywhere in North America that I'm aware of.

Maybe they didn't see you. I have seen a lot of people walking their dogs and just sometimes walking themselves on the street at night with no reflective clothing on themselves or the dogs. The streets are not always well lit, how are people supposed to slow down if they cant see you in the first place?

Waving is very universal for "sorry". What gesture would you have felt is sufficient?

That's a bad corner, if you're talking about Imperial and Rosser right in front of the condos. There's no sidewalks, and even walking single-file, facing traffic and obeying all the rules I've lost count how many times me & my kids have been almost hit in broad daylight.  
 
There should be more streetlights on that street, as there are long swaths of darkness especially since changing to the LEDs. Like others have said, reflective clothing would be best (I have a vest for my black dog), but I don't know how much it would help the way most people seem to scream around that corner. Also, a blind corner the way the streets are angled.

I side with Spartan regardless of bylaws or where the person standing or turning from or whatever. Bottom line is people around here are shit drivers with no police presence for traffic enforcement and I will laugh at the first instance someone takes a tire iron to someone else's vehicle because they are also sick of Brandon drivers and someone has caused some kind of damage. Doesn't the amount of bad driving threads on here attest to something.....?  
 
OP is just another good defensive citizen (driver/walker)that averted an accident as far as I see it.

the reason there is so many driving threads isnt because we are worse drivers here then anywhere, we just have NOTHING else to whine about lol  
 
as far as the incident goes, it sounds like the driver didnt see the op until the last minute on a road that has visibility issues the driver gave the wave to say sorry so imo the op should let it go  
 
work on what they can do to stop incidents like this from happening, like suggested, get reflective strips or choose to walk on a street with a sidewalk or less visibility issues  
 
people will always make mistakes, try your best to avoid them

While I totally agree that there are carless & distracted drivers at every corner in Brandon, I also look at this as a lesson learned for Spartan5-4life.  
 
I am a dog owner of 3 large breed (all between 80 – 100lbs) dogs. I walk them enough to have had the same thing happen as Spartan5-4life described. While it made me just as angry, what I came to realize is “you can’t fix stupid” so I would have to change my actions.  
 
It’s my responsibility to protect MY dogs, I can’t expect some stranger driving a car to care about or watch for them, so I reign them in at corners, crossing roads or back lanes and when people, pets, bikes etc approach us when we’re out. I walk in front of them and enter streets & cross walks BEFORE them, make them walk on the inside so they don’t wander into traffic. Drivers watch for adult humans, not small children or pets.  
 
Your dogs shouldn’t be walking ahead of or in front of you, you are the leader, you should be in control, you should be in front of them.  
 
We wouldn’t let our children out on the street in front of us without first checking for traffic, so why let your dogs out in front? ESPECIALLY at a corner or intersection, would you let them out ahead of you on the corner of 18th and Victoria or 18th and Park?  
 
Take a positive from this, your furry family members weren’t hurt and you now have something new to for them to learn while you’re out walking  

I agree with Sunny, you should have been in front, not your dogs.

I love it, can't fix stupid, here are more blonde moment, brain fart, brain drain, to the op good for you having the restraint to not approach the individual. It takes a lot of restraint to not approach with what had happened. It seems now every time you step out of your house you take your life in your hands or you hope some idiot won't take it from you. Glad you and pups are ok.
