OK... so I'm driving to Brandon from Winnipeg today, and four times I come up behind a vehicle with Saskatchewan plates puttering along in the left lane like they own it. I flash the high beams, move side to side, nothing seems to get them to see me behind them. Eventually I just give up and go around on the right. Being a professional driver, however, I'm uncomfortable with passing like this.  
 
So, the question is, why do Sask drivers seem to think it's ok to hog the left lane, when signage in Manitoba is quite explicit that slower traffic should keep right. It seems like it's only the Sask drivers that do this. The Alberta drivers tend to do well over 140kph in that lane, so overtaking them isn't usually an issue, but those Sask drivers....

They have those signs in Saskatchewan as well. Might be closer to the boarders and only on main highways but they are there. Now insert several jokes :p

Honestly, I think everyone should stop branding drivers as Brandon drivers, Sask drivers, Winnipeg drivers, etc.  
And just admit that everyone gets irritated with people that don't drive like themselves, however better they think they are at driving.

I don't think this post is about people "getting irritated with people that don't drive like themselves", but more about people not following the rules of the road, including where signs are posted.

Then why does the title of this thread state "Saskatchewan Drivers"?

Drivers everywhere do this. Not just Sask drivers, it's only more noticeable when Sask drivers do it because of the difference of license plates.  
 
Also, from my understanding, the OP is admitting to overtaking Albertan drivers going at least 140. How is that abiding by the rules of the road? And why would anybody come on a public forum like this and admit to it?

For every Sask plate you have seen doing that, I see 10 from Manitoba doing the same or worse. Don't be prejudice!

You are driving in the right (proper) lane and come upon slower drivers driving in the left (passing) lane, which is understandably odd, but seemingly harmless, what's your concern with driving past them in the right lane you're currently traveling in ?  
 
Did the right side lane maybe have ice or snow build up and they just felt safer driving in the left lane ?

Very odd....normally when coming back to Brandon from Winnipeg it is Sask drivers and I passing all the slow Manitoba drivers.

see how as a "professional" driver this is an issue to pass a little car on the right. While I see your concern passing on the right when it comes to semis, but a car is a matter of 2 seconds to pass and if they are going that slow you won't be in their blind spot for too long.  
I think honestly you took your grumpy pill yesterday and feel like being in a picky mood. I see lots of Manitoba plates do this and actually see less Sask plates do this as they are usually doing 20-40kms over the posted speed. While it's annoying when the road you're on is busy, but if the right lane is clear, it is FAR safer to pass in that lane then to get over and flash your highbeams and tailgate them and try to force them to abide by the laws that make our roads safe.....by doing something very unsafe!

on the Bestcoast (otherwise known as the Westcoast) we always hated seeing Sask and Mb plates, with Ab to follow. Y'all would put your breaks on going up hill if there was a curve. Used to go about 20kms slower then all normal good drivers with the BC plates because y'all never saw a small hill (or in prairie lingo Mountain). It was the most annoying thing to get stuck behind a prairie plated car!!! Now after having 2 children raised out here I fear that I have raised 2 horrible driving boys that will do the same when they drive back home to visit family. I feel a sense of responsibility to publically apologize to any west coasters on this thread in advance to contributing to this poor driving, because ALL prairie drivers are bad!

the left lane is for passing only. slower traffic keep right. people puttering along in the left lane are an accident waiting to happen. plus its a traffic violation.

Gonna say bad drivers are gonna be bad drivers, and good drivers are gonna be good drivers .... but dont be narrow minded and say something you cant back up like that o my !! Some of would drive circles around you, just like you would driver circle around others ..... Back to OP .... Yes ive seen this so often from manitoba drivers dont think its just Sask.

And all those Arizona drivers don't know how to drive moving trucks!

I stand by my statement... I've done a lot of driving from Southern Ontario through to the Pacific Coast in Canada, and it seems to me that the vehicles with Saskatchewan plates are the worst offenders when it comes to rules of the road and just plain driving courtesy. I used to be of the opinion that Winnipeg drivers had the distinction of being the worst overall, but I believe that's only the case when they are actually driving in Winnipeg. On the highways, it seems to me that I am always wondering what's up with the Saskatchewan drivers.

Sorry if that's how you read it. What I was trying to say is that the Alberta drivers tend to go more than 140kph so, since I don't exceed 120, having to pass the Alberta drivers that stay in the left lane is not a concern or an issue for me. They do the excessive speed, not me.

You say you are a professional driver, yet you swerved back and forth and flashed your lights at the car. Doesn't sound too professional to me and more like you were being more dangerous than the other car. Any chance the vehicle just pulled on the road from the other side of the highway and was getting up to speed? As a professional driver you should know that when you pull onto a highway you enter the lane closest to you until you can safely pull into the other lane without impeding traffic.

I was out to the (worstcoast) 2 years ago. Drove all the way to Vancouver and took the ferry to Nanaimo. Everything you said in your post was the exact opposite. Posted speed limit on the Island highway is 120kms... average speed of BC drivers, 95kms. So please don't make up stories about how people from BC are just because you grew up there. (don't even get me started on what happens to BC drivers when they get a little snow on the Island... more cars in the ditch than on the road)

Usually, after a bit of light flashing and honking, cloggers get the message.  
 
I had a clogger one time, and the driver knew it was wrong, because they pulled over to the right to let a police car go by. They then proceeded to return to the previous clogging.  
 
Bottom line: If someone comes up behind you, pull over to the right and let them pass. No matter where you're plated. Better yet, move over to the right, and stay there, you lazy turd.

in another province, this very same situation existed. You see, the highway signs read SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT, and like most cloggers, no one thought they were slower. After many complaints, the Highways Dept changed the signs to read KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS, and the problem went away. The idea was to direct drivers, rather than allowing a choice. That made it safer for all drivers.

Just because you went out 2yrs ago doesn't mean stories are being made up....but I don't know why the name calling!?! You purebred prairie folks take such offense to everything, y'all need to take a pill and relax! Maybe drive back to the bestcoast and learn to chill out!  
As for the snow, you can not compare apples to oranges. The snow on the coast is a lot heavier and wetter and makes it 10x's harder to drive in. The snow we get here is no where near the type of snow and I have spent many miles driving and seen many mb plates in the ditch when the roads are good. In 16yrs of being in Mb, the roads where I live have been closed once and that was when we had a snow storm in May and that was the closest to the type of snow we would get on the coast and they had to close the hwys down. But because you drove out there once, probably in the summer time you will have some sort of argument and name to call me.

So let me get this straight, you can say that people who live in the prairies are bad drivers, and we all just have to accept that. But when someone replies that there are horrible drivers in BC as well, you start sulking.

I guess you couldn't tell from my little bit of joking (ie. bestcoast, and apologizing to any westcoasters reading ebrandon, cause everyone on the west/bestcoast is reading "ebrandon") that I was joking around.  
You do truly need to chill out though, even with the "sulking" comment. I have driven many kms in lots of provinces and states and I know how many idiots there are in every province. My post was merely a joke about how every province thinks they are the best at driving and every other province sucks. It's people like you that turn every post into a fight that make ebrandon what it is....a pissing match. I'm going to take my "sulking moron" bestcoast best driver attitude and be done with this argument because I know that there are people in this world that just love to fight and I have much better things to do, like go to the dentist and volunteer to have all my teeth pulled out without any pain meds or shovel more of this light fluffy snow!

That was your quote.. I should have realized when you singled out the 3 prairie provinces that you actually meant the entire country. My mistake.  
 
And FYI, not turning this post into a fight, just defending the province I grew up in and the province I live in now
