I have a friend working in Poland and he went to a shop that sells old Red Army maps, originals and reprints. He bought an original Soviet map of Westman printed in 1982.  
 
He said the soviet military secretly mapped most of the world for possible wars. From scratch, not just copying local maps. Apparently some of their maps were more detailed than locally made ones.

as a history buff this map would be very interesting to view.

The pic is neat, it looks like a standard National Topo Series (NTS) map with Russian lettering and words. NTS maps (English vesion) available for downloads as pdfs and jpgs.

Cool share. I have not double checked but recently I saw similar with/through the German military. slight north west of us I think.  
 
Forgot where I saw it but it seemed real enough but I only saw the one source.
