How sad. I grew up across the street from 1953 to 1961. Played shinny every night and Park School Hockey team coached by a young teacher named Don Sumner, just out of Normal School, practised there. The team i:ncluded future Wheat Kings Bill Davis, Jack Matheson, and Dunc McCallum.. Wheat Kings to NHL and coach of 79 Wheat Kings whose win loss record (only 5 losses) is still the WHL record. Lost Memorial Cup in overtime to Peterborough Petes on very controversial missed offside call.  
The caretaker was Mr Weins who lived next to the centre. He was old school  
strict but had a real soft side.  
When I was 15 we started a Teen Club.  
Great memories. And Don Sumner became a legend in Brandon...

My parents move to 16 st in 1967. I was 6 and Park CC was the hang out winter and summer. Skating and hockey in the winter and football on the skating rink in the summer. Also played a lot of ball in the school yard (Park School). Many of hours at the community centre kept many of kid out of trouble. Times have changed, removed the rinks because no one was using them.

What have I missed? Has there been a recent decision or action with regards to it's outcome? Talk had been made on closing it and/or pulling it down. I haven't seen or heard of anything more since this spring. We do have property in the neighbourhood, but never get the opportunity to drive by the place to see if anything is happening. It's sad to see the state it's become and it marks the end of an era for the community, but it did have a good run.  
 
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

.......I grew up there from grade 2-6, spent many hours at the skating rink, playing baseball in the school grounds....times have changed now, my kids grew up going to community centers but not these days......too many two income families and city sports now.......sad to see but I guess it's time to move on......
