I have great respect for Queen Elizabeth.  
 
However once she passes on I believe that Canada should take steps to break away from the monarchy. It is time for Canada to break free and get its true independence.  
 
I have no knowledge of how this happens or how long it takes but it needs to start.  
 
It costs Canadians a lot of money to keep the monarchy in place. It will cost money to get out but we’ll worth it.  
 
Getting rid of all governor generals and staff would to be me a great benefit.  
 
Even the changing of our money removing queens kings which will happen at expected rate.  
 
This my point of view. Remember I have great respect for Queen and her long reign. But not the people that follow her after her death.  
 
I believe it shortly be time to make that move and the Federal government needs a expert committee that research this and stays in place no matter if change in government.  
 
Just my thoughts.

Great Britain is historically one of Canada’s closest allies and trading partners. As a member of the commonwealth Canada receives many benefits and we should celebrate being subjects to the crown of England which is of great benefit to us.  
Canada’s relationship with the UK will become ever more important in the future as the European Union disintegrates under its self indulgence and the USA falls apart through its own greed and stupidity. The rest of the world is in disarray and largely lacks stable government.  
The cost to the tax payer in Canada as in the UK to retain the monarchy is virtually zero when weighed against the benefits that it brings. The Royal family is hard working and costs very little to retain.  
What you have suggested amounts to treason , is disrespectful to those that have fought and died for our freedoms and you should be ashamed of yourself for being so short sighted.  
We need to build bridges and friendships not burn them .

The thousands of years of the monarchy is one of the most historic institutions in the world. I love the history of it and Canada’s affiliation with it.

but I'm not fond of Charles and Camilla. Would rather William and Kate become the next King and Queen.

Get rid of the monarchy, I would be surprised if you could find a single person under 40 years old that cares for the monarchy. Trade with the UK can be reestablished through new agreements, I have zero respect for the family, their entire empire was basically stolen from other countries and utilized huge amount of slavery, the human rights issues associated with that is just sickening. If we as canada need to reconcile with native Americans, the monarchy needs to reconcile with half the world, they say they are not racist (last years news) but their entire empire used racism and slavery to gain its powers for hundreds of years. I hope the queen passes soon and we as a country can hash out ditching them for good.

I agree . William and Kate would be a solid couple and great role models to lead the royal family and the commonwealth into a positive future. Many people of all ages and backgrounds relate easily to William and Kate and they are more accessible to the public.  
Prince Charles is actually highly intelligent, an accomplished businessman, well regarded environmentalist and well respected landlord by his tenants. That said I think that he would rather at his time of life that the crown passed to the next generation.

I think that The Royal family represents the commonwealth on the world stage very effectively.  
I don’t think that elected politicians carry such a high level of credibility.

remove the Monarchy from Canada will require a Constitutional Amendment. So unanimous support from all 10 Provinces, House and Senate is required. So pretty much impossible. Getting rid of the Monarchy is not simple in the fabric of our nation since so many things rely on it. You just can't get rid of it one day and just continue like any other day.  
 
And just what do you want to replace the Monarchy as Head of State? I like the fact that our Head of State is non-political and non-religious.

In this way, a Prime Minister or premier can never become a dictator, who says, “I am so popular that there is no need to have an election. The people love me. I will stay in office for the good of the country.” This, together with phony elections, actually happens in many countries around the world. The Crown would not permit this to occur in Canada, and would either cause an election to be held or the Prime Minister to be replaced.  
 
Can you think why it would be dangerous for even an elected leader to hold all a country’s power?

OP; Maybe teach yourself about how the Monarchy has shaped Commonwealth Countries and how we are not as much in danger as the U.S. during the last few years with democracy being at danger.  
 
Personally, I feel better under this democratic system. We are lucky to live where we are. I feel the Monarchy is very important to our unique Canadian identity and the wonderful relationship between Britain and Canada.

You want to break free of the Commonwealth and all the benefits of such because you don't like Chuck and feel the membership fee is too high?  
 
Do you have any idea how much the government spends on foreign aide each year? How about the Child Benefits? Do you have a clue how much the government spends on the 'Arts' per annum (including grants)? How about the food allowances each year of our fine members of Parliament?  
 
You are entitled to your uneducated opinion but that's all it is.  
 
As far as the heir apparent? No one cares for Charles or Camilla but such is life. He won't be your neighbour or co-worker. As with his mother he most likely won't have anything to do with the governance of the country so who cares?

Am I 100% comfortable with a hereditary monarchy as our head of state? Hell no.  
 
My bigger fear though is of unintended consequences. 99.9% of the time the Monarch has no decisive power in Canada. 99.1% of the time, the vice-regal representative has no real power in Canada. However, it's those 0.9% and 0.1% of the time situations where they serve a very real and important Constitutional function that I get concerned with.  
 
If we were to end up with a Prime Minister with authoritarian tendencies, only the Governor General and the Queen (King) have the power to step in and say, "Too far, buddy!", if the PM's own party fully backs him/her. If the GG feels some loyalty to the PM that suggested their appointment, then only the reigning monarch has the power to dissolve parliament and force new elections. It's a release valve we'll most likely never need to use, but I'm glad it's there.  
 
As for replacing the monarch. With what? I'm no fan of some of the republican (small r) systems I see. If we could find a way to pick a Governor General that didn't involve appointment on the advice of the PM, then perhaps we could move the direction of moving away from the Canadian monarchy in a person, but to the Canadian "Crown" being an idea invested it the o:bject of the "Crown" itself, and not the person that wears it.  
 
First step... when the Queen dies, instead of renaming our courts from "Queen's Bench" to "King's Bench", let's move to the non-gendered, "Court of Crown's Bench".  
 
My own hope is that Charles surprises people and starts a modernization of the monarchy during what he certainly knows will be a short reign . He has been the one behind many of changes that the Queen has made of late, after seeing the negative feelings about the monarchy after Diana's death. Knowing he has a short time on the throne, he may want his legacy to be to modernize the whole dang thing. I guess time will tell.

There will be a King if Charles gets the throne.  
I've got no problem with king's Bench.  
Not everything has to be blurred does it?  
It's been queen for so long it might be nice to have a change to king.
