Nigerian Military at War. You won't hear it on TV or Radio
5/21/2009 at 11:26 AM
The Nigerian military is turning the Niger Delta into a warzone in reaction to militants vowing to stop oil exports unless they start getting running water and other inexpensive necessities. 80% of the oil in Nigeria comes from the Niger Delta. Over 500 civilians have been killed, with thousands displaced, however no international observers or aid workers are being allowed in the warzone, so reports are not regular. The Niger Delta is one of the most polluted places in the world, with Toxic Rain harmful enough to damage metal roofs.
Oil companies, especially Chevron and Shell, are responsible for this. That is why you will not hear about it on TV or radio. They have been propping up military governments in Nigeria for years and raping the countryside as the soldiers stand by.
On November 10th 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight Ogoni colleagues were executed by the Nigerian state for campaigning against the devastation of the Niger Delta by oil companies, especially Shell and Chevron. Shell is to be investigated in the near future in this matter.
