In 1933 a coup was plotted, elite industrialists conspired so to speak, to overthrow the White House in answer to Roosevelt's economic reforms. This was to be a bloody military coup instating a fascist government. Fortunately they approached the wrong General to lead the coup, Smedley Butler, who shortly revealed the entire plot to the public. He was initially approached because of his immense popularity among the common soldier, unfortunately the men who approached General Butler did not delve further into his popularity to understand where it came from. General Butler was popular with the common soldier because he identified with the common man, and so his opposition to an elite run fascist state should have been obvious.  
 
Now as we are entering another serious state of economic unrest, where major reforms on par with those of the early thirties must be made, could this coup attempt happen again? It is clearly not outside of the realm of possibility as history shows.  
 
Mussolinis famous definition of Fascism indicated a blend of Corporate and Government power would create a fascist state, are we already there? Could a fascist state already exist/be in the making? Fascism-Lite?  
 
This is a serious conversation and so I advise comments to be well thought out/researched. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so you can just as easily ignore my recommendation.
