I am not a card carrying anything and like you, am angry at some of the irresponsible spending and outright lies (not PST hike) from the NDP. BUT, many years ago I worked in the civil service under Filmon and those were lean, hard times. So, congratulations to those who were elected, change was due, but if you think that the next four years are gonna be easy-think again.

Be glad Manitoba saw the insanity of the liberals - and yes - don't think the next 4 years will be easy - promised lots - let's see if you can serve what you cooked

It is too bad he couldnt have conceded defeat gracefully. He did a lot of good things but all we are going to remember is his sour grapes comments about Pallister.  

This wasn't so much an election won, it was an election lost, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people like myself that didn't vote as they normally would on principle of having to choose one steamy pile over another.  
In the end Sellinger was treating his power the same way Harper was and after 16 years it was time for a change of pace.  
The real test now, just like the Liberals on the federal level will be whether or not Pallister can make good on his promises and whether or not he can curtail anymore stupid personal opinions I.e. Halloween and the need to hide vacations and what not.

The reality is that these ARE lean, hard times. Borrowing money to go into debt to cover it up doesn't mean a better life for Manitobans. We will suffer for what the Selinger government has spent. Many will blame it on the PCs.  
 
I work in a government job, the waste has been appalling under NDP.  
 
Either way, i think bringing up Filmon from how many decades ago is getting old haha.

I remember those days as well - we will see how they will duck and weave around issues again now - but i also have to say I was most disappointed in Selinger resigning tonight - when he really should have resigned when the 5 rogue members made a stance. I believe had he stepped down then, the numbers would have been different tonight.

long winded it was that victory speech. Kind of thought he forgot he won as he seemed to be in the selling the vote mode.  
 
Just like Trudeau I will give him two budget before I chirp up. It was a good speech.Yes a good speech.

while I do hope that Manitoba fares well in the next four years.  
 
MR Filmon and MR, Pallister did in fact fire government employees and privatized MTS.  
 
I am glad you still have a government job and hope in four years you still do.

Manitobans did then, and still do now, have the option to bring a class action suit against any sitting government, that attempts to sell a crown corporation.  
 
any talk of privatization of hydro, should be the decision of the citizens. not elected officials.  
 
another could be auto insurance. while no one enjoys dealing with autopac, we have good rates with no fault insurance. try to have a 16 year old driving on the usual private plan.  
 
I am not accusing anyone of having any long term plans.  
 
I am just looking at past history.

Are you going to sue Selinger for selling the land registry for below market price. Suggesting that cuts to the bloated civil service can't be looked at is ridiculous. Too many pencil pushers shuffling paper and not enough front line workers. An adjustment needs to made because the current situation isn't sustainable.  
On another topic, too bad Drew Caldwell couldn't have accepted defeat gracefully. His comments about Pallister were sour grapes. Drew worked hard but this will be what people remember.

It was disappointing to see Drew Caldwell's comments in the Brandon Sun this morning. "we elected somebody that didn't make a single commitment to this community during the campaign". Well Mr Caldwell, I was disappointed in all the commitment's Selinger did make just prior to the election. More promises for spending the government can't afford. I have resided in the east end for years, have always voted NDP. Not this time, my loyalty left when the party tried to oust Selinger showing their lack of confidence, yet he assumed in his arrogance he was still the best man for the job. He alone is responsible for the loss of the election.He and his supporters, which Drew Caldwell was. To me it became more an issue that they put their own self interest before what was the best for the party. So, bye, bye.

to get another cheap shot in at Pallister and Isleifson.

I am thinking the PCs will do their best, after all they haven't sit in the big chairs for a long, long time.

Sounds like someone who believes Liberal and NDP malarkey time for responsible government.  

We should be OK if we get another multi million dollar flood. All the ducks are in a row for that.  
Good thing since our esteemed leader will probably be in Costa Rica .....again .

Time and time again we have heard that not once was Pallister in CR while the legislature was in session.

Yes, he is a wealthy man who owns property outside of this country. But he also owns a home in Winnipeg that I am sure his taxes are pretty darn high on. Not like other politicians like Mr Katz, who "owned" a pretty cheap little house in Winnipeg by comparison to his monster vacation properties in Arizona. How many people in this Province own cottages at the lake that they spend as much time at as possible? This is no different - he happened to have a position that allowed him a lot of time off and the wherewithall to go and enjoy his vacation home.  
 
Mr Pallister was not required to visit flood stricken areas (though he did, and without fanfare or photo ops I might add), nor did Dr Gerrard as he too, was not in power.  
 
I am betting the now Premier Pallister will be spending a lot less time out of this province now. And if he doesn't, we will question it HARD as it is our business now.

so im guessing that PC are in power now, that the new school proposed to be built in the south end of town is not going to happen?
