Does anyone have a good solution to get rid of ants making large hills in the lawn? Tried sprays, ant traps, etc., nothing works.

or perhaps corn meal, diatemaceous earth, or coffee grounds apparently work

On the Weather Network's website that I read not that long ago.  
They said cinnamon essential oil works great, vinegar, among others I can't remember.

Mix icing sugar with borax 50/50 sprinkle on hill or put in a small jar lid and place nearby.

We've actually been doing a bit of research on getting rid of ants and apparently there are ants that are protein eaters and ants that are sugar eaters. First you need to determine what kind you have - if you are spreading borax and sugar to a colony of protein eaters it will not work. Protein eaters supposedly like gelatin. We are trying the diatomaceous earth - and depending on whether we have sugar or protein eaters we will mix it with either sugar of gelatin - hopefully it works.

I know it might sound strange but I SWEAR it works. Go to Bulk Barn and get a large bag of cinnamon. Sprinkle (not a gentle dusting but a really good coating) it all over the hill. We had 3 large hills in our yard a few years ago (about a foot or more across) and put a fresh dose on the hill every few days and it took maybe 2 weeks for them to move off somewhere else.  
 
You also have to be careful and get every little hill at the same time otherwise those small hills can just grow.  
 
We keep a large shaker of cinnamon on hand every summer and now go out and get the small spots whenever we mow but they have never came back.  
 
Also, its cinnamon. No chemicals to worry about with pets and kids. I'm certainly not against chemicals but when a cheaper, healthier option works too then why not give it a try first.

what about ants in walls we see them going in and out any solutions out there

We sprinkled straight up Borax against foundation, repeated after rain, and they went away, or elsewhere, no more ants.
