Hello, just looking to see if there is any interest out there for renting 1 acre plots? I have land 15 minutes out of Brandon and was thinking about dividing it up for people to hobby farm during the summer. It’s grassland and forest. Could be used for gardening, raising chickens, livestock, bees, etc... Each plot would be bare and you could do what you wanted with it regarding farming, or gardening, not storing rv’s or old cars on. And any improvements or fencing would have to be temporary and easily dismantled. Nothing permanent, no parking a tiny house and living there. Anyway, just looking for some feed back and to see if there is any interest! Thanks in advance!

One acres. You can’t raise animals on that. As far a chickens the coyotes will say bring it on.

You may want to read this before jumping in the deep end. One acre is only 208 feet by 208 feet, difficult to fit everything in for enough over only four months of the year for growing.

I think that’s pretty nice of you to offer to rent your land for people to garden on. 208x208 for someone who has a 20x20 yard is a massive space in comparison to grow veggies on. I hope respectful gardeners take you up on your offer.

How much would rent be for one acre?

I would love that. Awesome way to feel like a country girl without having to sell my house right near my work.

1 acre is plenty big enough. We have just under 3 and pretty sure we only have about 1 fully fenced for our animals. Depending on the setup an acre is plenty of room for a couple animals.  
 
Garden plots are a great idea. Only issue would be access to water. If you go ahead I would talk to your insurance provider first to make sure your covered in case of an accident. Also suggest having a contract for renters to sign that clearly outline your rules.

And it would certainly be a great chance for people to grow their own food if you open it up for garden space. However, you should definitely look into insurance. Subletting your land opens it up for income, which means your insurance situation would now change, and you would absolutely want to make sure you are set up with a business license along with separate insurance to protect your personal liability from any business losses in case of legal issues.

Thank you for all the positive feed back! What do you think would be a fair price? I think a monthly rent spread over the whole year so you kept your plot and any upgrades. For starters I would probably set up a water tank and haul. And I will check into insurance.

This would probably mean business insurance. When I looked into setting up storage for rent, the cost for insurance was more than I would have made for the storage, so it wasn't worth it.
