Not rhubarb
7/7/2022 at 9:24 AM
I don't think it's rhubarb, but hard to tell from photo. How big is it? Has it produced any flowers? My suspicion is maybe it's burdock. It looks similar to rhubarb in many ways, but is also grown for medicinal reasons by certain cultures, which might explain why it's there. It's also considered a noxious weed in Manitoba.
Burdock will eventually produce a pink flower that will form burrs for seeds. Rhubarb generally will have flowered weeks ago already with white cone flower spikes and produce tri-lobal seed things.
Also, rhubarb will have a smooth underside of leaves and a solid stem. Burdock usually has a fine layer of hair on underside of leaves and a hollow stem.
Report back when you figure it out! I'm curious to know what it is!
