Why is a Zero Gravity chair called a Zero Gravity chair? it's just a chair that reclines. I have one, and while I do find it comfortable, I do not get a Zero Gravity effect???

I have wondered the same for several years now.....marketing??

I have no idea but thinking its called zero gravity because when it is in full recline mode its like you are hanging mid air - not falling down therefore - no gravity pulling at you - zero gravity. All I know is I can easily fall alseep in mine! Love it

The name was inspired about astronauts and their position at take-off. Given astronauts endure intense and sudden increases in gravity while escaping the Earth's gravitational pull, it's important that they position themselves so that their bodies can deal with the increase in stress. By assuming a reclined position, astronauts distribute the stresses of takeoff across their bodies in a safe way. To that end, the chairs astronauts sit in during launch use this reclined configuration.
