Discussions

So tomorrow we are heading to Portage la Prairie to see Paul Brandt. However I would really love to make it into a full day trip. My idea is to go fishing or swimming through the day and see him at night.  
 
Does anyone know what would be a good place to go for either of these activities? I would prefer either in Portage or on the way. Usually we swim in Minnedosa and fish in Souris, but those aren't really convenient. As well, please don't suggest going to the Portage EX, out of my price range
