I thought it would be interesting to mention favorite places to dine, but have since closed?  
Having lived in Brandon all my life, there have been some very good places to eat. The food and atmosphere was very enjoyable and the service was also very good.  
Some of my favorites were:  
[The Venice House] (great when you were seated in the 'barrel')  
[Astoria Pizza] (the original location on 26th and Victoria)  
[Double Bar S] (loved the 'jukeboxes' at your table)  
[Checker Submarine] (one of the original 'sub joints'on Victoria)  
There were many others, but I would like to hear your input. Maybe 'stir up' some of your dining memories?

Salbury House was out on the highway!

...there was nothing more fun than sitting under the nasty, dusy, disgusting bear at Parker's restaurant (pre-Arby's/Hakim Optical).  
 
A few others that stick out were DK's, Trifon's, Voyageur, Salisbury House/Cricket's, Rodo's, Pizza Place downtown, and the old Copperhood @ Zellers.  
 

How about the Suburban on 26th. St. and Vic, Trifons and Kokonos on Rosser Ave.

Also, The Suburban..that was good food ! ! Only thing close to it now is Mom's at the goof course.

Friar Tuck's on Princess between 5th. and 6th. street. Believe that's where the original Salisbury House was?

There were cafe's in the department stores... downstairs in Eatons, Wolworths and Kresges(currently the bank of Montreal building).Loved the large milkshakes served in the silver containers that they were made in. At least they seemed large when you are a kid,lol  

But in Winnipeg the two fave special places to go were  
 
Shakeys Pizza (love their mojo potatoes) and  
 
Chi Chi's Mexican Restaurant - so many great authentic Mexican meals and the best was their fried ice cream.

Ravens Fish and Chips when going to Neelin, Old A&W on 25th and Vic,Morts, Cecil best tarts, DK`s on 18 th and college, circle 8 northhill

Bonanza/Ponderosa were favorites of our family as well as when my own kids were younger.  
Franks Chicken and Pizza was a great place too...good food plus I knew the owner...  
 

The great Canadian bagel had the BEST pizza bagels hands down. O'kelleys was a cool place to go

Bonanza. Loved going there as a kid with the family. A full plate of chocolate mousse for desert and a bowl of ice cream. Would even settle for Uncle Willies.

but a couple for sure were Trifon's, Rodos, and the old Barney's on the hill.

Does anyone remember Prairie Pantry on the highway? All smoking restaurant, then the owner's opened Switzer's on Braecrest.  
Also Peggy Sue's with the jukeboxes, Soo's, Donuts and More, all the Robin's locations, Princess Cafe, Sergio's Chinese food by the Richmond McDonald's, Astoria pizza on Victoria.

I think that was the name, it was over by the old police station on 10th Street. There are apartments there now.  
 
Also as a kid, on big occassions, we went to the restraunt in the basement of the Scotia Towers. It was always a treat to go there.

in that area as well. Plus there was Embers - cannot recall the name of the lounge there.

in the Royal Oak Inn? Or did they move from one location to the other? Maybe twi different places, since I seem to remember Red Fox at the royal oak inn as a lounge/bar.

Rhinelander Restaurant - awesome schnitzel and the mulagatawny soup was to die for. Josef, I need you to make me a big pot of mulagatawny soup!

crockery Restaurant - loved their home made buns for their burgers - now Double Happiness  
 
Original Pizza Place on 10th  
 
Kokonas - loved to have a great steak there.

Taco Jewel - was in the lot next to Hurl's on vic east. Best tacos ever!!!  
 

are you thinking about the old pool hall/restaurant by the 4 way stop on 10th?  
 
I loved it there too..but can't remember the name!  
 
Kokanos was another great one....we frequented the bar side on sunday nights!

totally miss Bonanza. And LOVED Moxies!

The original Little Italy Pizza on 26th and Willowdale where the church is now. There was a smallish grocery store in the same building. Mama and Papa Fazio ran the Little Italy... many good times there.  
 
I'm glad Aunt Sarah's was mentioned... did I miss Ukrainian Kitchen or has it been mentioned.

The one in Brandon we enjoyed. Not really a dine place but there was Country Style donuts on 9th?? What was that place called? Orange coloured place.  
Mano's pizza was excellent downtown.  
And there was a perogy restaurant downtown as well as Country Kitchen on 18th.  
 

I saw the name of the thread and thought "Venice House" - the very first one mentioned!

a kid I LOVED Peggy Sues (where patches is now I think I was pretty young) they had little juke boxes at the table and as a kid that is the bomb! I begged every year when we came to Brandon to go there. I also miss Soo's chinese food.

was called the Golden Perogy and it was where Clancys was. I used to work there and have never seen so many perogies eaten in my life. They were good though.  
 
I totally forgot about venice house and the barrel.

K.F.C on princess was originaly Champs Kentucky Fried Chicken.

the dining room at the North Hill Inn - good food and I loved being seated by the windows so you could look down on the lights of Brandon: there used to be music and a small dance floor. Then Grapes Restaurant a bit later in the same location. And I think a German restaurant was in that location too at one time.
