Going to Winnipeg for a couple of days. Any recommendations for family restaurants that you cannot find in Brandon. Looking for a change from fast food chains. Ages of kids - 18,15 and 11.

Its on 90 south I believe.

The Royal Fork. The chickens ok, I've seen people there with plates of just chicken. The atmosphere is terrible though. But there's something for everyone if you can get past that.

Some place in between a Smitty's and Applebee's but not Red Lobster or Green Olive. We really enjoyed the Beachcomber at the forks and Nuburger's the last couple of times. Looking to find more hidden gems though.

If you like Greek try Christina's on Cordyn, very yummy!

Try Famous Daves!! My family of four ordered the platter to share, waitress says it feeds 2-3 people but we all ate like we had never ate all day and took home leftovers!! Platter is ribs, brisket, corn, coleslaw (amazing coleslaw), fries, corn bread, & beans. So yummy!

Carnaval Brazilian BBQ joint in the exchange district is fantastic!

Cora's is the best for breakfast!

A small little restaurant called 1958 in Wolseley. Every meal is under $10, all home cooked, owner is the chef, marinates his meats the night before, sources his breads from a local bakery. Opens at 11:30. My sister took me for lunch one day and it was so delicious that I took my son again for supper on our way out of the city!!

Yes, it's a chain, but food is amazing! breakfast, brunch, lunch  

Mongo's Grill is always fun and very good. You select your ingredients and sauces and they grill it up on a huge round grill right in front of you!

Pancake House is great, but do not try to go there before 1 pm on Sunday....packed.  
 
The Old Spaghetti Factory in the Forks is still a pretty good place to go.

The Marion Street Eatery has great food and has just had an episode for the Food Network shot there.

I second Mongo's! So good!!!!  
 

Saucers cafe or Stella's cafe are great, with food similar to lady of the lake.  
 
Boon burger is a casual dining restaurant (communal picnic tables) with delicious vegetarian burgers. I'm not a vegetarian but love this restaurant!  
 
Bangkok Thai is my go to when I need a Thai food fix! Delicious and affordable.

Thida's Thai is hands down best Thai restaurant in Wpg. It's located on Donald. The Pad Peanut is too die for (you can choose on a scale of 1-10 for spicy) and the salad rolls are outta this world too. They are very well known in the city for their peanut sauce. Mmm now you got me craving Thids's!

Stella's is always a treat, great mixture of all day breakfast as well as sandwiches and burgers. Also, if you go to the Sherbrook St one, you HAVE to stop in at the bakery after and pick up some chocolate croissants!

Mongos is great! Lunch is the best value.  
 
I would also highly recommend Red Top Diner - featured on diners drive-inns and dives on food network. Great prices and great food!  
 
Magic Sushi - $15 all you can eat  
 
Big Guys - it's like home style pub favorites, big portions lots of flavour  
 
Saffrons - quality food great atmosphere, Canadian cuisine

I second the other recommendations of Stella's Cafe and Boon Burger.  
 
Chaise Lounge in St. B is amazing as well. We opt for the prix fixe menu, where the food keeps coming until you`re full. Lots of fun!

Thidas is so good!! And I love the same dish!!!! I got to wpg and get take out of it for two days!!

Seriously.... Nobody has said Salibury house! I love it there. Winnipeg and sal's go hand in hand! Affordable and good food!!!

Gasthaus gutenberger for German, Thida's for Thai, and Viva for Vietnamese. Not a fan of Magic Sushi, you get a lot for your money but the quality and flavor is not great. For burgers, Original George's and The Burger Place are both good.

Can't believe no one has recommended The Grove on Stafford off of Corydon. Excellent food, great drink selection and something for everyone. The pizzas are TDF! Along with their open faced burger with an egg in it... don't knock it until you try it!

Gasthaus is fantastic! East India Co. is also good for indian food although its buffet style but that's typical. Thida is fantastic thai never tried Viva and agree Magic is just gross. If you want budget friendly sushi then sushi cushi on St. James. Good Sushi I'd have to say Wasabi or Blu Fish. Segovia is probably my favorite restaurant, just phenomenal every time I go. Fergies Fish and Chips is another. Superboy's been around for years and a great burger and chili fries.
