Walmart also sells it and it is cheaper than michaels but if you have a 40 or 50% off coupon for michaels it is cheaper there.

Definitely make your own from scratch. The pre-made fondant tastes nastily sweet and can be difficult to roll out and knead to workable softness. Most people will end up peeling it off because the pre-made is too sweet and bland.  
Go with the Wilton marshmallow fondant recipe. It is an excellent recipe. I personally like to flavour it with a few drops of candy flavouring (get it at bulk barn)...raspberry is one of my favourites.

I totally agree with AndreaD. I think the ready made is nasty & my family members have always just peeled it off & thrown it out. The raspberry flavouring is quite tasty!

We always use the fondant at Bulk Barn. We have tried all the others and have tried making our own. The cost at BB is the best coming in around $16 dollars a tub. The taste is not sweet and it is very smooth and workable for covering cakes or doing fancier work like making flowers. Never have cracking or any trouble rolling out. There are those people who eat fondant and those who don't. It's mostly a texture thing and some people don't like the gummy texture no matter where you get it. That being said some people I know love eating it and others don't. There is a good selection of colors but you can just buy the white and tint it how you want. This is especially nice when making small items to go on cakes and cupcakes.  
If you choose to make your own be prepared for a little practice and a bit of mess. Takes a bit to get it the way it needs to be.  
In our experience, Wilton's is hard to work with and does not taste good no matter which kind you get.
