Planning from a distance

I am originally from Brandon but am currently living in Alberta. I got engaged this summer and am thinking about planning a wedding for next summer (2009).
Both my fiance and I are originally from MB and we are thinking that we would like to have the wedding in Brandon. However, I am a little bit worried that it will be difficult to plan from a distance.
Does anybody have any thoughts on how difficult it might be to do most of my planning from AB?
(note: I do have family in Brandon still - who have offered to help if I need someone to sign things, or pick things up, etc - and I also plan to be home at Christmas, and possibly again in early spring).
