Valentines day and Marriage

Just curious how many ppl associate V-day with proposing? And secondly, in todays day and age, (women) would you wait for him to ask you? Or would you take it into your own hands and propose to him? I have a few freinds who asked their bf instead of waiting for him. Is this becoming more and more common?
On the same note, I still have yet to see a mans engagement ring...
