I'm starting to look into wedding dresses and I'm not sure if I should try Brandon first, or go right into Winnipeg. Anyone have any feedback? How was your experience in Brandon? Is one route cheaper/more expensive?

Stores have donated unsold wedding dresses to The Nearly New Shop on Ninth and McTavish. I would start there. They are kept upstairs and you need to ask one of the volunteers to assist you.  
 
The prices are closer to $100 or $200 instead of $1,000 AND the money you spend will stay in Brandon and make the hospital a better place.

Also have some really pretty wedding dresses for sale upstairs. I was in there the other day and saw a gorgeous dress on the mannequin that was brand new, and I think it was $300 if I remember right. Good prices!

I was going to go straight to Winnipeg when I bought mine. But it didn't work for my wedding party so I decided to give Brandon a try. And I'm so glad I did. Went to Muse, prices were about the same as Winnipeg. And the service was exceptional! Found the perfect dress.

Also a really great selection on Amazon with good prices. And they will take your measurements & make a dress that fits you well

I got mine at Promises Bridal they have a huge selection and Faye is amazing I adore her! I've gotten a bridesmaids dress, my wedding dress and a dress for a family wedding. So I've been a customer 3 times and highly recommend her store!!

It's always nice to support local shops so give Muse and Promises a try before heading into Winnipeg. You never know what you might find! I myself found my dress at LA Collection in Winnipeg they have a huge selection and are great to deal with.

I'd say check out Muse. I've seen them in a fashion show before and they had some really nice things.  
I see that they regularly get in new stock to keep their dresses up to date.  
(Side-note, their regular dresses are so nice too! Found some nice dresses that work for going to weddings and also double as a nice, professional dress for work.)

If you end up going to Winnipeg, I recommend LA Collection. I had a tight timeline for ordering and altering my dress and their service was exceptional.

Phenomenal! I can't say enough great things about my experience at Promises Bridal. Faye and the staff are awesome! There is a wide variety of prices and designers and they will do everything to make your dress perfect! You won't be disappointed! Why not start here first? There are two places to go and trying on dresses only happens once! Good luck!

Lots of good suggestions here - you don't have to go into Wpg to get a beautiful dress. And, some of the most beautiful dresses that look amazing on the bride are ones from the Nearly New or places like that. Cut the pressure, you don't have to shop at a stuffy place just because your friend(s)did. And, you can still have that gorgeous dress for a fraction of the cost.....Just my thoughts!

I encourage you to support local and highly recommend Muse.  
 
As a local Brandon and area seamstress I get many Winnipeg purchased gowns for alterations. Traveling back and forth takes time and gas price does add up.  
 
When you do find the dress you want,double check the size that the salon orders for you.I have had far too many dresses come that have been ordered the wrong size. Watch the measuring, watch the numbers written down and the chart used to know what size to order. Don't be afraid to ask questions, to look at what the salon writes down. When you pick up the gown check what size was stated that would be ordered and what size they are giving you.  
 
Two salons in particular from Winnipeg seem to order 2 or more sizes too big. The gown is handed to the customer with the alteration hang tag on it. This 2 sizes too big alteration is a difficult one at times.

I tried in Brandon and found one I liked. I then went to Winnipeg. I don't recommend David's Bridal as I found them impersonal, pushy and time crunched. I bought my dress at Stella's. I would highly recommend them. Lots of different styles and colours! The girls were absolutely lovely to deal with.

I found my dress at Promises in Brandon. Love Faye and the service! I did lots of dress shopping in Brandon and Winnipeg but ended up finding my dress at Promises! What I did was look up the brands they sold like Maggie Sottero (love the dresses) and wrote down the model numbers and Promises has most of them I wanted! I also promote buying local. Support Brandon businesses!!

Promises was great for me! They had the dress I wanted and lots and lots of selection!! Faye was great to deal with! I was actually dreading wedding dress shopping and she made it soooo easy!! Also purchased all of my bridesmaids dresses there. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

I recommend shopping local. I have shopped in both Winnipeg and Brandon and have to say the customer service here in Brandon shops is far superior. The prices are about the same as Winnipeg and the selection is great as well. Either Britt at Muse or Fay at Promises would take good care of you! Hope you find your perfect dress!

Just married July & my dress from 12 yrs. ago no longer fits, so I rented 1!
