I am looking for opinions on indoor wedding venues and catering for about 200 people. I prefer to keep my budget fairly tight so the most bang for my buck is what I am looking for. You get brownie points if you can mention approximate costs .

The Legion has a large hall and can probably cater for 200 people. The food is cooked on site and served by Legion volunteers. Prices range from $18 - $20 per person (I think) - call the office 728 - 5026 (Tuesday - Friday) to get an exact quote. Usually you can have access to the hall the day before for decorating. Many couples have their reception there.

HOLM Smoked BBQ for catering! Very personable, flexible and fair in cost. The meat is exquisite!

I highly recommend Benny's as a caterer! We had them provide food and bar service at our wedding and they were phenomenal! We had an amazing meal at a great price and they even boxed up the leftovers for us to eat the next day or two. Wonderful customer service!

From Virden has excellent meals and is very affordable. Starts around $15/plate and goes up depending on options. i:ncludes dessert.

Thanks for all the suggestions! A few of them I've never heard of. I know there are a few venues that cater their own meals and some that don't; it's just a matter of figuring it all out. I know there are alot of smaller gems out there as far as venues and food.

I think if you're looking to have anything catered, you're going to be looking at the $18-$20 a plate including your hall no matter where you go, as a minimum. The places that the food are less you're usually needing to rent a hall on top of that, and sometimes even dishes, chairs, etc so that increases your cost.  
 
I got married 12 years ago, and the prices surprising haven't change much in that time, maybe $1 a plate. We did a place that included our hall. A friend tried to go the cheaper route, and rented a hall, dishes, etc with a cheaper caterer, and it worked out to be roughly the same cost, only hers was WAY more work LOL!!!  
 
So just make sure you factor in ALL those costs when decided which way is more cost effective, and also realize how much work you (and your bridal party) are willing to do.
