I see that a service called "ShowGO" are saying they're just over a month away from launching what is as far as I know a unique service to Canada. Their thing is "Any movie, any theatre, any day"... basically you pay $12.95 per month and you get to watch one movie per day at theatres with the card that they send you. No official word I've seen on if Brandon is included, though their promotional video states that their "coverage extends across 95% of all cinemas in Canada. "
 
It appears to be inspired by the USA service "MoviePass", which just saw its 1,000,000th subscriber. The Moviepass service (which isnt affiliated with theatres) has gotten a not necessarily favourable reaction from theatres in the US, with at least one major company threatening legal action, another taking a "wait and see" approach and another starting its own subscription service (but from what I understand the card works at all of them).
 
Whether its this company or another, is this a kind of model you would considering using, whether you already go to the movies regularly or whether you currently don't?

It sounds like a big part of the US Moviepass business-case is based on the value of the data they collect. Majority investor in that US service is actually a data analytics company who presumably have a plan to get enough value in that and any added value partnerships to offset the cost of all the tickets.  I havent seen anything that convinces me its a guaranteed long-term profitable business but it will be interesting to see where it goes from here as its obviously gotten a lot of peoples' attention.
 
Whether this Showgo gets off the ground in Canada and gains traction or a future service on a similar model opens shop (maybe even Moviepass or one of the theatre companies themselves?), who is my data going to? Who might it be sold to? And of course how much more $8 popcorn would I be powerless to not buy after that smell hits my nose on the way into the show?
