Paparazzi/Media Insensitivity
9/12/2009 at 9:50 AM
I am feeling so sad to watch that the media (often driven by the public's insatiable curiosity) has the inconsiderate gall to feel entitled to release Caster Semenya's gender results at the same she was being notified. And that assumption is being gracious giving them the benefit of doubt.
The poor family must be shell shocked and their reality challenged regarding her gender identity being discovered this week. This is a private matter that all parties (public masses included) could have used common sense and compassion in such a traumatic event. They imply that she is on suicide watch right now. No doubt, much of this revelation could have been done in a more dignified way. There is no scandal here warranting immediate disclosure so I am truly disappointed at the media's involvement.
AND!
Erin Andrews from ESPN was on Oprah sharing her experience and feelings of violation at being filmed by a peeping tom. Okay ... I understand she reports sports and is not so much paparazzi as she represents the media industry and it's investors and benefactors. But it makes me wonder how the other side appreciates having the tables turned.
I never hear the details of tabloid magazine editor's life on public display. You never see Harvey Levin's private life exposed for the world to see.
Gossip outlets are the most under-represented identities today due to selfish access to control the content filtration.
This is sad.
