What is everyone's opinion? I think they are both guilty!

If I was a member of the jury I would never have been able to convict either of them as I would not have been convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. I found the documentary fascinating though and will certainly watch any updates.

I haven't watched it, but I have seen a lot of other articles that comment about how the documentary left out a bunch of the evidence used to convict them. Something the film makers admit, so I wouldn't use just the documentary to decide guilt or innocence.

Should get something for false reporting a crime. No proof of blood in the house so his story should have been thrown out. No scratching on the bedpost from restraints. Just a boy telling a story that was egged on by the investigators. The uncle I'm still on the fence about that guy?

Brendan should not be in jail. Poor kid. He is definitely innocent. I also believe Steven should get out too. He has a new lawyer and innocence project is helping again. The police framed them

Both are guilty, the documentary left out key evidence, and mislead with other "facts" that were never proven and some of which were not allowed to be used in court. Was evidence planted or tampered with? probably. Is the justice system badly flawed? Definitely. But Avery is most definitely guilty and the kid was at the very least an accomplice. The phone call to his mother about his guilt and how he felt bad and should never have gone over when he heard the screams etc  
 
You can't use the documentary as the basis of a decision, because they're using only the "facts" that support their point of view and leaving out or grossly downplaying others.

How did the lady's bones, DNA and car get there then. It is stupid that the same police were there and found key items like the keys but it doesn't change the fact that her burned corpse was in the backyard.

Going to Wisconsin is off my bucket list of places to visit. Too many crooked cops. Get pulled over for an infraction and cops don't like you, spending the rest of my life in a jail does not thrill me.  
Howie Sport, what information are you basing your opinion on? Where you at the court proceedings or have inside info tation. Just curious.

They at least deserve a new and fair trial. It's possible they did it and also just as possible they did not, none of the evidence even the stuff "they left out" of the documentary proves that they did it, it suggests it.  
I can't get over how her dna and blood was never found in his trailer or garage, how could someone clean it that well, and clean her car of all fingerprints and then leave his blood in it? It makes no sense. He can't be so smart to clean it all that well and then be so stupid to leave his blood in plain view.  
The keys were obviously planted. That in itself should require a new trial.  
And that poor kid deserves a new trial most of all.  
Anyway thats my take on it.  

Is that the facts that they left out in the documentary would not have made me believe that he was guilty. circumstantial evidence at best. And his nephew was really the second victim after the young woman. But it was the Justice system that victimized him.

The documentary just has me convinced of a lot of things that DID NOT happen, and that most of the prosecution's case did not happen, nobody knows what DID happen.  
 
If they can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that things happened the way they say they did, then nobody should be in jail.  
 
I have a sneaking suspicion that what really happened with respect to the young boy is exactly what he wrote when he was told to tell the truth so it would be over. I think that is the truth and that he was really just trying to get it out there. I wanted to cry when the guy who is supposed to be working for HIS LAWYER basically told him "that's not true. Now tell me what I want to hear. And draw a picture."  
 
If Avery is really guilty of the crime, then the police missed every opportunity to find out and prove what DID happen because they were too busy making their scant evidence fit a story that clearly DID NOT happen. They coerced and bullied the young boy into telling a nasty story about his uncle, and so they were stuck with trying to prove whatever he said. And he said whatever they wanted to hear because he just wanted to be out of the situation and get home to his mom.

The whole case does not make sense. Where is the blood? Who deleted the voicemails? Why isn't her dna on the key? Where is the BLOOD. There is no way brendan did this. He doesn't understand anything. He just wanted to go home. I feel bad for him. I feel bad for both

I don't know if he did it or not but the corruption/tunnel vision in that police force should have been enough reasonable doubt to get him off. Why did they not ask anyone else for an alibi? An ex boyfriend, a supposed stalker before her death? Why was no one else investigated?

Is "Making a Murderer" available for viewing anywhere other than Netflix? Thinking I would like to see it but don't have Netflix and no interest/intention of getting it at this time.

This is a Netflix Original program so it would be hard to view it anywhere but Netflix, legally of course. The only way will be if some network or website buys the rights to view or stream it,which probably won't be for awhile as this is a relatively new documentary.

HLN tonight The Nancy Grace show has a story about Stephen Avery and how he is guilty, just caught a glimpse of the commercial.

I think they are both guilty. There were many things presented at trial that were left out of the documentary. But i also think that the trial was unfair and some of the evidence that we did see was a little fishy.

I thought not guilty all the way until episode 9. The kids trial kinda of really made me think that maybe they are both guilty.

Whether he is guilty or innocent it's quite clear some things do not add up. At the very least these two need a fair trial.

I'd rather dangerous criminals go to prison on "fishy" evidence than being set free because of not enough.... Besides, the documentary is as biased for the defendants as it portrays the prosecution towards the defendants. the truth is somewhere in the middle, which is why you have to look at actual case reviews and articles rather than base a decision of this show.

Whether they are guilty or innocent was not the only message of this show. I was amazed at the presumption of guilt from the start. You're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. That does not happen anymore. Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt? They were guilty in the media before they ever got to trial. That is the biggest message here I think. The one attorney says it at the end.... Something about how most of us will probably never commit a crime but if you're ever accused of a crime, good luck. The accusation is enough to screw with you forever. Scary.

Then don't put yourself into positions where you can be accused of crimes....or better yet don't commit crimes... seems pretty simple to me.

Tell that to David Milgaard and others who were wrongly convicted on "fishy" evidence.... because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time or "looked" like the person who did it... or could not provide an alibi...  
 
Even innocent people get convicted due to unfortunate circumstances and/or cops/prosecutors with agendas.  
 
This post is also in response to HowieSport ... I hope you never get mistakenly charged and convicted, you dangerous criminal, you.

Whether they are guilty or not, they deserve a new trial. The whole case did not make sense. New trial, new town, new people. Steven tried to appeal a few times but it was so pointless cause it's the same judge who called him a "dangerous criminal" .... He never will get a chance. I'm glad he got a new defense team along with innocence project! I hope Brendan gets out too. I do believe the police framed them. I also believe the juries were too scared to say he's innocent because you're basically saying the police killed her. That's a lot to handle. I hope they get a new trial! I don't think they're guilty

I had to watch the first 2 episodes twice before I finally got into it. I'm glad I gave it another try! Not quite done yet though so not sure what I think but definitely leaning towards not guilty.  
 
When watching scenes with Brendan, it's just heartbreaking. Such a young kid and I don't know if he just gave a statement that he thinks the police wanted without realizing he was incriminating himself or what but I don't think he did it! I just feel sad for him and want to hug him!! Lol  
 
I feel the police may have set them up so that Avery was "punished" for making them look incompetent with the case that sent him to jail for 18 months, wrongfully.

They are both definitely not guilty.  
 
The defense faced an uphill battle the entire way - it's not easy to defend someone against a conspiracy involving law enforcement despite the evidence clearly showing the police set Avery up. If there hadn't been a couple of jurors who were stubbornly convinced of Avery's guilt from the beginning and remained unwilling to hear the evidence, he'd be a free man today.  
 
Another thing that has me convinced of Avery's innocence is his sweet demeanor through it all. This is not a violent man. I only hope something can be done for him and he is released from prison so that he can spend the rest of his life living in the simple manner he wishes to.
