I’m buying a new truck within the next week or so. I’m specifically looking at a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. But what I want to know is, which is more fuel efficient? Or are they the same? A dealership is willing to give me a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Redline edition with a 5.3 L engine.. but another dealership has offered me a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 6.2 L for $10 more than the other one. What would your advice be? Worth it or not?

Got a few friends with same engines. They are getting the same mileage. So they claim. I would go with the 6.2. Better resale value. More power if you need to pull.

If your planning on hauling, and pulling a trailer a lot, the 6.2 would be a good choice. If your using more as a people mover, I would get the 5.3. The 5.3 will get better fuel mileage, unless your hauling a load. Both are very good motors.

I actually had a 5.7 dodge and theres not comparison...the GMC with the 5.3 is way better. I pulled a 24ft pontoon out of the lake with both back wheels half submerged and then straight up the hill to the cabin and you barely knew it was back there. I haven't had a truck like that since my 5.9 cummins.  
 
As far as fuel efficiency, it's on par with any pick up truck I've ever had, or cargo van for that matter. I mean it's a truck. I can drive from Brandon to Winnipeg and back and I'm sitting about an 1/8 under 1/2 tank

It''s a U.S. site but it shows the 5.3 gets 1mpg better than the 6.2, city or highway. It also shows the retail price is the same. That translates to 34 miles further per tank of gas on the highway.  
If you can afford over $60,000 for a truck (with the redline sport package) why worry about 1mpg? Get the bigger motor.

Before you think the 6.2L is a better hauler, check the gear ratios, and tow capacity. They will put a smaller ratio in the 6.2L to make it match the 5.3L fuel economy, and then you donthave nay extra tow capacity.  
 
The 6.2L is very very responsive tho. It's awesome.

You had to fiddle around with some weird settings that I never understood...but if you just pushed the Tow/Haul button that big engine hauled terribly...it was definitely geared for mileage/highway driving...towing anything was brutal, and the mileage was worse.  
 
The 5.3 tows great right off the hop.

buy a new truck right now unless you got way to much money and need it.  
 
If fuel prices keep rising and pass the high prices a few years ago you won''t be able to afford to run it.  
 
It will drop huge money in price for the resale market when people finally realize the governments hate them and people can''t afford to run them being taxed off the roads to save the planet.  
 
I run a 99 3/4 diesel truck for work/ farm using unmarked fuel and another gas for private use due to where I live/ bad winter roads both run around 19 give or take a bit.  
 
The gas is going to be replaced with something more economical like an SUV or smaller economical 4wd and used most of the time, when I don''t need a truck to move heavy stuff or trailers.  
 
The work truck won''t be getting replaced like I had planned with something newer either. It might be time to forget the trucks/ big travel trailers for a lot of people.

If people can afford satellite tv, cell phones and the internet every month a few more bucks on a tank of gas doesn’t matter. The world won’t stop when gas prices go up, only the number of people complaining do.  
 
But to help answer the OP, decide if you are towing much or not. Compare the rear axle ratios as mentioned above as well as that will make a difference in economy vs towing. Ultimately the choice is yours but keep in mind it IS a truck and people dont buy trucks with fuel economy as a priority.

I probably should have mentioned I currently have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 6” BDS lift and 22” tires. It is a PIG on gas. It drinks gas like there is no tomorrow. I average about 26L/100km. Absolutely hate it. Doesn’t help much when I travel a half hour everyday for work. So anything at this point would be better than this truck.

Your 2016 has the 5.3 already. Essentially it’s the same truck. If you want a new truck that’s fine. But if you like your truck it would be easiest to figure out why it’s using twice as much fuel as normal. Start with removing the lift and putting normal road tires on it. If you buy a new truck lift it and put big off road tires on it you will be back to square one. Oh yeah 6.2 all the way if you go new.

If your worried about your cost per mile I don't think the smartest solution is getting absolutely hammered on depreciation trading a two year old truck on an identical new one. Simply remove your 6" lift and you'll get the same result without eating 30-40% depreciation.  
 
Or just roll your existing loan into another 8 year loan. Its the canadian way

Unfortunately I bought it lifted, so if I remove the lift, it would void all warranty. And I’ve already inquired about removing the lift, which would be extremely pricey considering I don’t have any of the stock parts. It’s been nothing but a headache.
