There are a lot of us who can't be bothered to walk half a block to an actual cross walk, so we wait patiently at the curb looking for a moment to cross. My problem isn't with the person trying to cross, but with the person behind the wheel who decides to stop for them!!! Even if it's a kid, women or man.. elderly... if they decided to cross and are now standing in the middle of the meridian, THAT'S THEIR CHOICE.  
 
You DO NOT stop in the middle of the street to let someone cross... i've seen this at least 10 times this past week! Please, figure out another way to do a nice deed, because stopping the flow of traffic just to make yourself feel better is only p*ssing off the rest of us!

So many people around here make up driving rules to suit them. Mandatory retesting every 5 or 10 years for EVERYONE would help greatly.  
 
It is amazing how much the rules of the road seem to change between here and Winnipeg. You certainly wouldn't stop for a jay walking pedestrian on Portage Ave. You don't stop for a flashing yellow lights at intersections. How come these things happen here?  
 
If you stop for a pedestrian in the middle of a street and I'm behind you, I'll lay on the horn the entire time.

The yellow light things drives me even more nutters than the jay walking thing! Nothing causes accidents faster than expecting someone to proceed through an intersection but have them stop unnecessarily. My kids have just come to expect me to start yelling at people when we approach one. LOL

When riding my bike a while a go I stopped at the stop sign at 22nd and Vic. There was a truck waiting in the median to turn and all four lanes of traffic were busy. Then a car in the curb lane stopped to let me go! Of course the cars in the next lane didn't stop, the truck still couldn't turn and now the traffic behind the stopped car was going to screw up the inevitable gap that the truck and I were depending on. Not following the road rules, even to be 'nice' just messes with everyone.

Need a full time traffic officer or two. People stopping like the op said, people rolling right through stop signs, not even attempting to brake. No signals. In my day, you got tickets for these infractions and I still obey the laws to this day for that reason. Then there is the one that infuriates me, when you stop at a four way sign, you let the person who was there before you proceed,, and the person behind him goes through with him at the same time!! WTH? We seriously need to start handing out some fines in this city.

Brandon is not a big city rat race and having a little patience and common decency goes a long way. Every intersection with a sidewalk is a crosswalk, whether marked or not.

No one here is talking about crossing at the unmarked intersections. They are talking about pedestrians wandering across the street in the middle of the block. That is not a crosswalk. If a pedestrian is standing on the side of the street in the middle of the block-let em stand there! They do not have the right of way-they can wait until there are no cars then they can cross.  
 
It would be worse than stupid to stop on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg to let a pedestrian cross in the middle of the block. With a that traffic, moving as fast as it does? One car stopping could and probably would cause a major wreck and the pedestrian would likely get hit trying to cross all the other lanes. Come on drivers, have some common sense!!

This is not Winnipeg or a major city. I wish people would just keep that in mind and relax, it’s a small prairie town with nowhere to go in a hurry. If that’s not your thing then go somewhere else.

Brandon is busy enough that traffic doesn't need to be stopping mid block to wait for a pedestrian to toddle across the street. If obeying traffic laws is not your thing perhaps you should move out to the sticks somewhere, where you can pull out your lawn chair and sit in the middle of a road all day and no one will notice.

not at all difficult for you at all because you know what your expectations are BUT how are driver's to know that? You are one of the few I think. So so many times, people on the median have stood until they thought they had time to boot between cars, & didn't. That's when brakes have to be slammed on or the pedestrian gets hit!

Got an automatic fail the first learners driving test because of this exact situation. Person started J walking across the road (not at a crosswalk, it was right across the median), I stopped or I would have hit her straight on . I had no choice, as the instructor agreed, but I got an automatic fail for stoping in the middle of the road.

So the instructor wanted you to hit her? Wow. Talk about a no win situation.

How would you feel about that freezing j walker when They get nailed by a car in the next lane that failed to stop ? The other driver may not have seen or expected you to stop. He would be legally right but feel guilty as hell. Mid street stops and j walking are play Russian Roulette with lives. That driver who failed to stop may or may not have been distracted. No matter : unexpected stops can cause grief.

There is not a set of rules and laws for Manitoba drivers, and a different set of rules for Brandon drivers. We ALL need to follow the rules, so that we can anticipate what the other driver, or pedestrian, will do.  
NOT following the rules will net you a fine ( courteous or not ) and demerits.
