Does look a bit milky towards the top of the dipstick range. Have you lost much coolant? Has the engine oil level risen? Difficult to tell from the picture. Is the engine overheating and is it pressurizing the cooling system or overflowing. It may be just condensation if you do short trips. The correct way is to test the cooling system for combustion gases in the coolant so a job for a shop probably. If engine runs good otherwise you could flush the engine oil, drain , replace oil filter, refill with fresh oil and run it for a few days to see what happens. Hope this is some help but it is difficult without the vehicle in front of me. What vehicle is it? If only a four cylinder it may not be much to replace a head gasket if you did need it. Always best to get a confirmed diagnosis before you panic.

A couple of things first, do you do short trips, where the engine does not get up to full temp?  
Is the engine direct injected?  
Do you idle for long periods?  
This is very common this time of year. things to do to help with condensation.  
1. Avoid short trips.  
2. If you use the car make sure it gets to operating temp.  
3. Is the engine direct injection, if so the first 2 rules are especially important.  
4. If all your driving is in the city get out on the highway for a good stretch.  
5. Avoid long periods of idling.  
6. May have to change oil more often.  
Water is a by product of combustion and needs to be burnt off by a hot engine, as well condensation produced by short trips will collect in the oil, but can be burnt off by getting the engine up to operating temp.

Thank you for the reply. It is a Nissan Rogue and it only has 75000 km on it. The oil level itself doesn't seem to have changed much and it really hasn't lost anything more than quarter inch on the reservoir of coolant. So maybe 200 mL in 6 months. I check the oil on a weekly basis and this wasn't there last week. This vehicle is relatively new to me is it possible that this is a result of condensation? And not a head gasket issue? I live 20 minutes outside of Brandon and commute with a daily. I just finished returning from a 30-minute trip at 120 km an hour and was going to park it in the driveway and let it cool off for a few hours and check it again to see if there is any

Not sound like much coolant loss. I would try some engine oil flush, then drain,refill and new filter. Unlikely on a light vehcle but is the water pump external. If it is gear driven it could leak coolant down the shaft into the oil. That is more likely on a heavy diesel or motorcycle though. I’m not familiar with a rogue.

My only experience with head gasket failure has been two times on my Subaru and both times I had some pretty substantial coolant loss as well as The Milky film building up on the inside of the oil filler cap. This time there's absolutely nothing on the cap but I had this on the dipstick only

Did you remove your oil fill cap and check for condensation there. Blown head gaskets usually have a few telltale signs, and one is a pressured up rad or air bubbles that are visible with rad cap off

The coolant clean? Dirty coolant could indicate a problem too. If this motor had just run for a while and head gasket was blown I would expect all of the oil on dipstick to be milky and yours isn’t. Don Brown had some good advice there too. I wouldn’t panic just yet. Will be interested to learn how this turns out. Nissan tends to make a very good motor. Generally if you have a combustion leak issue the temperature gauge will rise quite rapidly under load.  
Also a blown head gasket will sometimes make the interior heat fluctuate.

Take it to a shop  
They will run a diagnostic and tell you the issue.  
Only 75000km may be covered by manufacturers warranty  
With a daily commute of highway driving, excess moisture will burn off. But the very milky looking oil is definitely a concern  
I'd say there is a head gasket issue

Coolant seems clean.. no oil in it.

If it is a head gasket  
. Will be my first and LAST nissan .. I have a Mitsubishi in my driveway that lasted 380 km on the original head gasket.. I should have drove to wpg and stuck with that

That sinking feeling when you think you have a serious problem. But get it diagnosed before you let it ruin your day. Also some motors will give the impression of pressurizing if run with the pressure cap off so be careful . My four wheel drive tractor always holds a lot of pressure under the cap even when cold and that is correct for that model. Most Modern motors are very reliable if they are properly looked after. And make sure you use a good quality engine oil that matches manufacturers specs. I have seen an engine produce a lot of condensation just running 15W40 instead of the recommended 10W30 ( that was on a Ford Fiesta). Dino oil is fine unless the manufacturer specifies synthetic but Must be correct viscosity. Regular oil and filter changes are your friend despite some of these extended intervals. 10000 Kms max, 5000 is better in our climate. I go 10000kms and it’s fine

It is the season that condensation can occur, didn’t really pay a lot of attention to you opening post and was curious about when your last oil change was. I’m likely going to extremes here but you could swab the dipstick hole you would likely be able to see if there is an accumulation of moisture in the dipstick tube. Did a quick search of the water pump on a Rogue and it is an external mounted pump, so unless there is a crack somewhere there likely won’t be antifreeze coming in from the pump. Sort of have doubts about a head gasket leak, on aluminum blocks and heads, usually if there is warping you will get external leaks.  
No engine is ever completely sealed as far as a small amount of exhaust entering the crankcase, and when you shut your engine off in cold weather those exhaust fumes will condensate without being sucked off.

Not to feel sorry fo myself.. but the funny part is this nissan is my wife's car..I'm to pick up my car from the shop tomorrow an old subaru.. racking up my credit card for it.. yep.. a head gasket .. .  
And this Nissan I bought used and is likely just off warranty.

You are going to need a combustion leak test then

So took it out for a highway run.. about an hour at 120km/h (dont tell on me).. and let it cool off for a couple hours and now this is the dipstick picture. I dont get it. No milky deposits at all

A head gasket leak usually has to be quite bad before it will turn the oil milky. The coolant will leak in after the engine is shut off (low pressure in cylinder, high in cooling system). When it does, the coolant (being heavier than oil) sinks and when you start the engine, all the oil turns milky. Condensation forms in the space above the oil and sinks into it (as on your dipstick), but with condensation there is a lot less moisture so it burns off and doesn't contaminate the oil as badly. If the engine does heat up normally, I would check the PCV system. I would still get it looked at, but with the information given I would say there is no head gasket leak.

Sure looks healthier. It would be interesting to loosen the oil drain to see if there was water/coolant settled in the sump. I am still a fan of then topping off the oil and running some oil flush through it and doing a complete change again and a filter. I had a heavy truck dump it’s coolant into the oil in the spring ( that was via the water pump) and the oil on that was milky white all the way through. Flushing the sump sure cleaned it out though, it cleaned it out great (after fixing the coolant leak). It might be worth asking a Nissan technician if you haven’t already, what oil they recommend, they might recommend something for our climate that suits your car better.

Might have been worried for no reason. I have made 2 commutes to brandon and home.. about 2 hours total highway time ..and dipstick was fine both times and this morning. Seems like those suggesting condensation maybe right. I'm an older guy who has owned lots of vehicles and I've never seen that in my life. Learn something every day. Thanks to all

this may sound dumb to you but if you taste a little bit on your tounge and see if you can taste sweet if its sweet its antifreeze had the same thing happen turned out to just be codinsation. good luck

is always present to some degree. If your not loosing coolant, why is there a concern? Farmyard diagnosis is just that.

Head gaskets dont just go bad, they have to have some over heating done in order to become leaky as they will warp when this happens to them (unless they are defective which you would have heard of a recall by now from Nissan) Unless overheating has occurred to your car, its probably just condensation as mentioned in earlier posts.
