Stop signs are not yield signs
8/19/2010 at 5:39 PM
I live close to the corner of 9th and Aberdeen. About a month ago, I was in the Town Center and saw a great project a student did about people running stop signs. So I decided to do my own project for about a week. (Yes, I really don't have anything better to do.)
For half an hour, I would sit on my front step with a notebook and cellphone (just in case) and observe how many vehicles went through.
At one time, I recorded 323 vehicles (1:00pm-1:30pm). I want to say a huge thank-you to the 255 that came to a complete stop.
To the 68 that either completely ignored the stop signs or just used them as a yield, I truly hope that you get your license taken away.
Oh, and there's a stop line for a reason. The crosswalk lines are not the stop line.
To the young woman who almost hit the older gentleman pushing a stroller, I pray every day that you don't kill someone. Even though you did come to a complete stop doesn't mean you can go when someone is crossing the road.
And to the person driving the dark colored car who almost hit the bicyclist at the stop sign: Slow down! Pay attention!
