Where are all the diesels? And Im not talking about Super Duty Trucks. I'm talking about cars, 1/2 tons, and SUV's. Now before you say it, I know, VW. I own a TDI Jetta, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD. But today, your only choices are VW, AUDI, Mercedes and BMW. If you have ever been to Europe, you will find all the cars you drive in DIESEL over there. (Toyota Tundra, Kia Sorento, Chrysler 300m, Chevy Malibu, ect ect ect) I know from experience, that Diesels sell fast! All the VW and AUDI SUVs were pre-sold in Canada for 9 months. The Jeep CRD (Common Rail Diesel) sold faster then Chrysler could even imagine.
You cant even get a New Smart Car thats Diesel any more (and sales have dropped)
You get superior fuel milage, and huge amounts of Torque and longer engine life compared to the Gasser counter parts. (3.0L Jeep has more torque than a 5.7 Hemi)
I understand that more diesels are coming, but I think we are a few decades behind.
So, my question to you is, do you OWN, or would LIKE TO OWN a Diesel CAR/SUV/import (HD and SD Trucks Don't Count), ? Likes/Dislikes. Gas Milage? Have you driven a Diesel in a different country that you see the Gasser counter part here and love/hated it?
SO, here's my info, I'll get the ball started.
2000 VW Jetta TDI
5spd standard
285k KM 46MPG HWY
38 MPG City
2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD (3.0L Mercedes)
Auto
80k Km
35 MPG HWY
28 MPG City
(These are consistent Figures. Have gotten better and worse for both veh)
Cheers!
