A word of caution...

With dealing with MPI on stolen car claims, I found they were somewhat slow to respond and were cheap on me. When I lost a car a few years back and was recovered a week later in Winnipeg. Like the OP, it was sitting in a compound waiting for it to be picked up. However, no one from MPI in either in the Wpg or Bdn offices could tell me if the car was repairable, drivable or even assessed. They wanted me to make a trip into Winnipeg have it brought to a Wpg claims center then taken to a MPI approved repair shop to be determined how much work was needed to be roadworthy, because according to them the car "looked fine". But again, I was told to take a day off and drive in to book an appointment at a local claims center, a tow company and service place to arrange for all the work to be done in Winnipeg. I was taken back a little... Why the hell would I drive into Winnipeg and run all around there to fix a car that they won't give me a hint if it's worth fixing? Why would I waste a tank of gas, drive all over Winnipeg, making tow arrangements and a appointment with a unfamiliar repair shop, only find out it's written off? I told them this was stupid and a waste of my time & gas. They told me that's how it's done. I told them since that car has a claim on it and it is in their possession it was their responsibility to have the car fully assessed to determine if indeed it was to be written off. ...They refused. I then said I wasn't able to retrieve the vehicle from Winnipeg, especially if it wasn't drivable, that they would have to return it to Brandon. They were not impressed, ...but I stood firm. I wasn't going to do all that running around ...Especially without a car, plus if were to just end up as a write off. So they brought it back to Brandon. Fine my @$$! Big dents, the drivers door handle was pried apart, steering column destroyed, seats slashed and blood droplets everywhere! But, Autopac said they would indeed fix it! Then the dealership placed it on a hoist. And to everyone's amazement the entire undercarriage was thrashed from what is believed to be the result of going off-road or driving over curbs. The impacts were so severe, that the entire engine and transmission were pushed back several inches, ripped and cracked open that both transmission and motor oil had drained out! I'm so glad I didn't take their first recommendations and wasted a trip and end up making future trips for a car that's not repairable.
My advise... Have MPI bring the vehicle back to Brandon. Don't let them convince you that you have to go there and have all the work done there. You shouldn't have to retrieve your car. ...that's what the insurance is there for. They'll try to convince you "that's how things work", but it's not! I don't care if my car was found in Vancouver or in Alexander, if they so convinced that it's going to be fixed... Bring it home! Those shipping costs should be considered as part of the claim. Don't get tricked into going out of your way just to save them money.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong
