I'm looking at purchasing a used chevy Equinox 4 cylinder any thought on them.

Had a 2011 with the 4cyl. Had 190kms when we sold it but it still ran great. Never had any issues with it, my only complaint was that it was extremely gutless. Not a big deal but you sure notice it when trying to pass on the highway and things like that. It was a good vehicle for us, only traded up because the kms were getting high

I purchased a 2008 model new and traded it in a year ago over 350000km on it.  
I purchased a 2015 Equinox and I love it again.  
I test drove the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder and hated the 4.  
As the previous person posted the 4 just didn't have guts.  
Plus I needed the V6 to be able to tow my boat and even with the boat there is still lots of power.  
Looking at GM website you can upgrade the LT and LTZ models to get the V6. Adds about $2000. Definitely worth it!!!  
AWD is a nice perk too, but it does adds another $2000 to the price.  
I love mine and recommend it.

Pretty sure the Rav would be quite a bit lighter

The Equinox vs the Rav in 2012 was about 1300 pounds heavier.  
 
Take you and three buddies on a highway run as a test drive. Pass someone. If you are happy about that then great. I would though be concerned if you intend to keep it loaded with stuff in the hatch and have a need to be loaded with passengers. A four banger does not scare me but a test drive is a must.
