I have a 1995 GMC Suburban 1500 2wd with 5.7 in beautiful condition but has a tired engine. Came out of Texas. Considering putting a crate engine in it. Where would be the best place to shop for an engine and where would be a good place to have it installed ? tnx

Are avail from most parts stores. Piston ring does there's in Winnipeg. They would mostly be long or short blocks. A full crate motor probably direct from GM. All depends on what you want to pay.

I would check out your local GM dealer. Bring your serial number in with you and they would likely be able to steer you in the right direction.  
It's been a long while now but several years ago they had very good prices on crate engines and came with a fantastic warranty like three years 60,000 km or something like that.  
If you're looking for a bit of an upgrade in power you may want to consider getting a Vortec engine with a TBI intake.  
The Vortec 5.7 engine had more power and also slightly better fuel economy than the engine that came factory in your suburban. You could install it with the general motors intake which adapts your factory TBI system to the newer style engine. A performance chip for your computer and lay rubber!!! (Sorry- the hot rod tuner in me is getting carried away)  
Or just go stock.  
I have also heard the guys at Daly Repair in Rivers do great work and do engines/swaps all the time. I'm sure they could steer you in the right direction. It's very much worth a call.

Tnx for the help. I''m going to go talk to GM. I was looking online and it looks like there are performance engines available from them for a reasonable price.

Check gmpartsdirect.com in the US and ship it to Vanorny's. Compare that pricing option as well!

There is a performance shop on 13th south. R& something. In the old wheelers spot i believe. Rob is the guy go see what he can offer. He has really decent pricing

Is that the RPM shop ? I:m going to swing by there and see what they think. Tired of the gutless old engine and also the spongy suspension. Hard to find these old Suburban's with a rust free body. I think it's definitely worth some investment.

GM sells a 350/290 without accessories for about $2750 or a turnkey 350 ho deluxe for about $ 5500 . I'm leaning towards the 350 HO Deluxe. Puts out 335 hp

Wow, to spend $5500 for a 1995 vehicle? Maybe consider getting an engine from a wrecker, although you never know how good they are from there.

New Suburban is $ 80000

I would think you could get your engine rebuilt for less than that? Have you called a few of the local engine builders see what they could do for you?

Direct from GM, Piston ring has requirements for who installs for warranty, GM doesn't.

The warranty on crate engines, I believe, is 160000km or 5 years. Lucky if any of the other guys offer 1 year.
