We brought a 2013 Dodge Ram with less than 100,000 KMS - my husband travels and last week in 3200 KMS he had to put in a litre of oil. He phoned the Dealership and was told to bring it in - he did. They checked it out and said everything was fine and using a litre per 1000 KMS  
is was acceptable for Chrysler. Has anyone one heard of this before!!!

They tried that with me as well. 2 year fight. I won... well kinda. They rebuilt the engine. No longer a dodge fan in our fleet. Ours was worse. Close to 1L to 1000km of oil consumption. They tried to tell me that's within specs.

Engines do "use" oil and yes there is an acceptable amount. If the vehicle was smoking I would be worried. The 1L per 1000k does seem very excessive.

That's not new. Did you buy it with just under 100,000Km or is that how many it's got since you bought it new?  
If you've owned it since new, did it just start using oil or has it all this time, or gradually increased?  
If you bought it used, who knows what it's been through! Maybe the previous owner never ever changed the air filter, and the engine got dust or debris, and the rings or cylinders are scored-this is a recipe for using oil.  
Another cause of using oil and still running fine-and passing a leakdown test would be PCV valve is faulty, that's about the cheapest part on the entire truck to replace and is always worth the effort to just change anyway.

My truck was bought new. Started using oil at 40000 ish km. Didn't get the motor rebuilt till 100000km. Lots of phone calls and having dealers add the oil to keep track. Over two years it took. I have other trucks with well over 300000km and don't need oil topped up in between oil changes.

I don't want to start this into a Brand war, but I have always driven GM. In 2000 I bought a new one and that was the first vehicle I had with the engine oil life monitor. Usually have always changed religiously at 5000K in all my vehicle before that and often was only a smiggen under the full at the time of change on any vehicle. Well once I had that monitor, at 5000k it still said 65% to go, so I call in on a mechanic at the dealership for advice as I was intrigued by his opinion of this system. The response I got was "GM has invested tonnes of money in this system, and you have full warranty so go by that monitor". Fast forward 17 years and that has been how I roll. My prized vehicle which I ran a pile of miles in, like serious miles, was up to 357,000K when I did retire it only because the transmission was starting to slip, and most oil changes were at 20% left on the monitor which was on average 12-15000K and it was barely down to the add mark even with that extremely high mileage. They should dig into it! Has to be something causing this.

That's what was wrong on mine. Did a bunch of other stuff. Took a long time to get fixed when it got to the shop. Dealer tried to help but dodge/mopar was the issue.

had the same problem the head was toast and they didn't want to admit it.

We bought the truck with 78,000 KM which is less than 50,000 miles. We have never had a vehicle go through oil at this low KM - Our Toyota has over 400,000 KM and has just started using oil. They say it has been documented about using the oil so if it starting using more we can get something done.

i bought a brand new f150 in 2000 and after a recall i got my engine replaced with 20t km. new engine used oil, liter per 1000 km. complained to ford and they sid its normal. sold the truck right away

I can tell you for a fact if it was up to your dealer ( any make) they would do something. Today's engines just don't burn oil but for some reason the manufacturer thinks that a litre a 1000 km is fine when 95% of all cars don't need any added oil between changing. Call the customer service and don't let it go till they do something and work with your dealer as there hands are tied by this stupid rule.

well i do an oil changes every 5000kms and my truck does not move of the full mark ....so if your truck uses that much oil i would get rid of it of make the dealer ship fix it...That is not normal on a new truck....Wife drives a dodge and it uses no oil in between oil changes so the dealer can kiss my ass if they were to tell me that.....sounds like you are getting screwed hard

else is saying, something is wrong!! I have a 2011 chevy with 80,000kms on it and I never add a drop of any fluids to it and religiously change the oil at 5000kms. I have a 2011 f150 for work (hate fords, but no choice for work) it has 153000kms and with hours on engine, it's probably closer to the 250,000kms range (oil field truck so it idles for 12hrs/day when it's on a job) and while it's a piece of junk ford I have personally put 80,000+kms on this truck and am the only driver of it and I've never added a drop of fluids and it's never given me a lick of mechanical issues other then the stupid ford gas tank vent line issue. Our GM of the company drives dodges and has had an 11, 12, 13, 16 and all well over your kms (his current 16 he bought 6mths ago has 90,000kms) and he never adds anything except for when they drain his oil at 5,000kms.  
So I would say your dealership is screwing you!

Could u imagine waiting for the monitor to tell u when to change your oil and it told u to do it at 15000km and your vehicle was burning oil and needed a litre every 1000km. I would be going in and raising hell if I was using 15 litres between oil changes lol.
