Position Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Assistant to join our Generation Design Department. Under limited supervision of a Professional Engineer or Senior Technical Support staff, prepare, modify, archive and work with engineering drawings, to support procurement and construction of structural systems within Hydro and Thermal generating stations.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare engineering drawings for Hydro and Thermal Generating Station systems from marked-up drawings, notes, sketches, or information supplied.
- Prepare 2D drawing packages in accordance with Corporate and Departmental standards or specified instructions.
- Prepare drawings utilizing information from previously completed designs.
- Provide technical review of as-built drawings.
- Prepare drawings and technical documents for e-sealing by Professional Engineers.
- Release, modify, issue, archive and distribute drawings and technical documents per established procedures.
- Adheres and ensures the adherence of others to drafting processes, procedures, and standards.
- Resolves complex issues related to EDMS, and AutoCAD.
- Maintain working relationships with other departments for correlation of design data and drawing preparation.
- Train junior drafting staff and review of drafting work.
- Contribute to the development & documentation of departmental drafting standards and procedures.
- Make occasional field trips to collect design information and to ensure conformance with designs.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education plus a one year certificate from a college of recognized standing in Drafting/CAD (or equivalent), and three years of directly related drafting experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD to produce 2D engineering drawings for structural systems such as structural steel and reinforced concrete.
- Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting structural system drawings including but not limited to the following:
- Structural steel drawings, including bolted/welded connections, and structural steel section types & sizes.
- Reinforced concrete drawings including bar designations, standard reinforcing steel detailing, and reinforcing steel schedules.
- Preparation of material and quantity take-offs.
- Working knowledge of document management systems and various software and hardware related to drawing production and management.
- Demonstrated ability in the assembly and interpretation of technical data.
- Ability to identify factual information and ensure mutual understanding.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to carry out projects to successful completion on schedule, with minimum supervision.
- Capable of training junior personnel and communicating effectively with others.
- Knowledge or experience with 3D structural modelling will be considered an asset.
- Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e., air, land, and water.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $34.73-$48.04 Hourly, $66,553.76-$92,054.04 Annually.
