Certified cheque or PayPal buyer

Has anyone ever been scammed by a buyer offering to purchase your item via a mailed certified cheque and then having a ‘handler’ pick up your item after you have cashed the cheque? I also have someone wanting to purchase the same item but wanting to pay via PayPal. Both are texting me, one with area code 650 and the other with area code 814. Any advice here would be appreciated.
