Maybe not helpful, but one way I found to take the wind out of the sail of a chronic gossip was to find a way to muddy the waters.
I once worked at a place where nothing was private, with some characters going to asinine lengths to feel important. Knowing this, when a bit of information about my life was inevitably going to be making the rounds, I got ahead of it. To the gossip, I fed one tale and was assured silence. And to someone on a different shift on a different day, I fed another red herring. In short order, both stories fanned out, and no one knew what was happening.
Can this be transitioned into helping your situation? I don't know. But it's an idea.
