For those of you who purchase lottery tickets, there are some interesting comparisons between ours and USA. Odds of winning Lotto Max is 1 in 28 million. Odds of winning Powerball is 1 in 292 million. Current LottoMax is $60 million. Current Powerball is $178 million. If you were to win Lotto Max you would get $60 million. If you were to win Powerball and take the lump sum after federal and state tax you would get approx. $76 million.Yes, I know many of you do not buy them, but I am curious as to those who buy them on a regular basis if you are buying them less frequently.

If you win powerball do you get taxed in Canada as well as states.  
 
I only buy lotto max when I just want to see if any chance for me.  
 
Really what would I do with 60 million. But then I would love the chance to find out. LOL

In the US, yes. In Canada, no

I think just being Canadian doesn't automatically exclude one from having their winnings being taxed if they should be so lucky to win an American lottery. If a Canadian wins money at an American casino, those winnings are subject to taxes before payout, so I assume the same rules would apply.

But a Canadian can file a U.S. tax return and get the taxes back on U.S. Casino winnings because you are not a resident and not subject to taxes.

Lotto max annoys me.  
 
In comparison to Lotto 649 and every other alternative, the jackpot is almost always WAY higher. But at the same time, the tickets are also sold at a premium price, at $5 minimum to get in on the action. If you always have a higher amount going into the pot, then it stands to reason the pot will always have much more to offer than all the alternatives. Which in turn sells even MORE tickets.  
 
Indeed, this is less of a powerball comparison than it is a comparison to our other lotto brand. None the less, it's my thoughts since it replaced the Super 7.

A friend won a jackpot at a U.S. casino and 30% was taken off for income tax. He got a form to complete, mailed it I think to a govt. office in Minot and received the money back.
