I think the media is responsible for the majority of this panic and I hope they are held to account in some way. Thank you Adam for keeping it real. "
Thanks for the kind words, doing my best to try to facilitate flow of facts. Being just one dude that has to eat and sleep I appreciate the folks that have chimed in with confirmed facts and links of their own.
My biggest concern is social media, where you’re already starting to see “my friend who knows a nurse told me that” kinds of posts. It’s important on serious stories to look for verifiable facts and to hold folks that share non-factual info to account, asking for sources wherever possible.
At the same time there are a lot of organizations that are posting info on cancellations and plans on their social pages. IMO when those posts are available the public is best-served sharing them direct on their social media so that people are seeing the info right from the source.
I’ve seen a lot of media providing good objective coverage. There’s a lot of pressure on the Sun as our only true full local news operation and they need to be commended for depth of coverage and for opening up their paywall on COVID-19 stories. IMO during this period folks are best served being in the habit of checking their local stories on the pandemic daily, putting priority on sharing them on social media if on a topic that social media contacts should know about.
