I am sure I am not the only one wondering how many months it going to take to replace the culvert on their curve. We have detoured since the 24th of August. There is no one working there most days I drive by, huge piles of gravel on the road and now there is finally the huge culverts sitting there. Is this to go into winter? The detour is via trans Canada which closed quite often last winter. This would be most inconvenient for those people needing to get to work to get paid and unable to just because they have a two mile detour on a closed road....sorry but this construction should not be taking this long, if you weren’t ready to do the project, don’t start it.

You probably will be waiting for a while longer. Atleast its only short detour so maybe an extra 10 minutes of driving. Speaking of that area, that stretch from the Junction of The Eastern Access Road to the Chater turnoff is in rough shape. That was resurfaced only a few years ago!

That is peanuts compared to the people on Grand Valley that have to drive hours and tankfulls of gas due to a pile of dirt just to get around to Brandon. Now being in the construction field, not in road work but if it is like other areas getting materials is a pain right now. I am sure the amount of roadwork that had to happen after the flooding in June has put other projects behind.

if we compare it to how long it took the 19th street corner fixed.  
 
we are looking at least 9 months or more

On MIT website it says something like oct 15 as a completion date. Not good planning on someone’s behalf. There was a good week to two between hole dug and new culverts showing up. And equipment still sits there with no one around.

They did ALL of 457 but that 1.5 mile stretch. Guess the bank dried up

it is not possible to drive hours to detour on Grand Valley road. The road just is not that long. Exaggerate much? And ya, if 457 is closed and the #1 gets closed due to bad weather, people will likewise have to drive "hours" to get home, as it means detouring around to the south, past Maple Leaf and on gravel roads to get to Shilo, or Chater.  
 
As far as 457-they say Oct. 15 is completion date but the way they waste time and run late on road construction, maybe they will be done by October 2021.

Well I will let you in on a little secret.... Thanks to Mr. Pallister there is currently no employees around to work that equipment. That is why it is sitting unfinished. Between not hiring anyone after retirements or people that just said to hell with it and left for the private sector and well lets not forget he also forced the entire civil service to take 5 days off without pay there just ain't no one to work. And sadly it will only get worse until they privatize everything and the cost of service sky rockets.

Yea I exaggerated the Grand Valley a little. Big Mack, it it actually government employees or is this work that is tendered out. If tendered out it would have nothing to do with employees hired by the government.

Well obviously the company doing the work has some employees as they did dig up the road and get the culverts there...it just doesn’t make sense to start something and not keep working on it. For example if I was your cashier in a store and I started to ring through your order, rang in two out of 25 things and walked away, waited one hour came back and rang in two more, walked away again, came back rang in one item, walked away again, etc., etc. Would a customer stand for this??! No! They would leave! This is just a situation where they can get away with taking their sweet didly time doing a job that should have been done properly the first time...and unfortunately we can’t leave and go to a different store! There is only the two roads between Brandon and Shilo (without adding a crazy extra amount of commute time that is) so they have is between a rock and a hard place as they say.

Has anyone heard anything more about this work on Veterans Way? It was supposed to be completed by the 15th and I see it's been extended to the 31st but I've yet to see anything happening.

if No 1 closes due to winter storm / ice etc.  
 
if veterans way not fixed many will not be able to get to work either way.  
 
detour for veterans way is No. 1 so you are basically scr.... if you have to get to work or even emergency vehicles.  
 
starting work this late in the fall is crazy. it wasn't that bad and we have lived with it for a number of years another few months won't have hurt any drivers.  
 
then this working on a bridge as well just adds to the problem.  
 
construction companies have too much leeaway. if there is a date like Oct 15th completion then every minute after should be penalized heavily. There were many weekends they could have worked on it and had it done.  
 
same as in Brandon. starting on Park avenue to put wheelchair access to sidewalk corners this late in the year is also crazy. or at least do a few at a time don't rip them all up at once and then don't get them done.  
 
does no one have any sense when scheduling things? do they forget this is Prairie weather? We could have a blizzard any time and be buried till spring.

sure those people also chose to live in a flood zone so... the detour is more than two miles for most if coming from brandon, the op was being kind in their distance choice lol ..and they are also correct in asking why block off if its over a month just to get the culvert on location?
