Thinking about starting a family/home daycare - tips??

I am seriously considering opening up my home to families in need of childcare services. Any tips? What are the pros and cons of becoming licensed? What are the pros and cons of remaining private? Any information/feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially if you are a childcare provider
