I have a fruit fly infestation going on for the last 3-4 days . Only thing new was my bananas I bought , which I quickly threw out thinking that was the culprit .I've googled solutions to no end , trying the dish soap , rotten fruit , apple cider vinegar concoctions . Any ideas on getting rid of these lil buggers would be greatly appreciated .Thx.

This problem too. I took a small bowl and sliced some kiwi into it, covered it in Saran Wrap and poked a few tiny holes in it. I think I used a tooth pick. It was amazing how many fruit flies I caught in that trap. Good luck.

I know the answer !!! Take a jar >>> fill 3/4 with red vinegar ... cover with saran wrap >>> poke tiny holes in saran wrap & place on counters... Put 2 if need be... You will be amazed !!! Good Luck........

I had this issue last month, I think a watermelon was mu culprit, but I found the cider vinegar worked great.  
 
I put about an inch of it into 4 small necked bottles and just left them around the house.  
 
It didn't fix the issue overnight but a week or so there must have been hundreds of them floating in the bottles.

I tried all the home remedies too and had reasonable success with apple cider vinegar mixed with dish soap (used a very shallow jar lid and just kept it full to the brim), but it just wasn't keeping up with them. I finally broke down and bought 3 of the fruit fly traps from Canadian Tire... that finally did it... it doesn't do much the first 2 days, but about days 3 - 7 it's amazing how many it traps. I just wish the traps were re-usable... it was an expensive way to handle.

I have don't the above remedies as well with good luck. I also usually buy the sticky tape things and put them near the fruit bowl. I have read drains are a bad culprit for breeding them so also put oil in my drains then plug them for the night is supposed to help as well.

Take a small glass and put some Apple Cidar Vinegar in it and 2 or so squirts of dish soap. Put plastic wrap over it and poke holes with a fork. Trust me- works like a charm!

If you put coffee grounds down the drain it helps prevent them. And to get rid of mine I ended up just buying a pesticide because tho the traps work, they don't work fast enough.

we did Apple cider vinegar with dish soap but used an empty 500 ml pop bottle. Rolled paper up like a funnel and taped to the top of the bottle. Works well because they can't get out, found Saran on dish didn't work BC they were crawling in and out too easy.

Are u positive they are fruit flies? Sewer flies look the same

Are you sure they are fruit flies or could they be drain flies? I've had this problem before and found that I had to clean all drains/sinks/bathtubs/ect. Boiling hot water, baking soda/vinegar, eventually used drano.

They lay their eggs in drains and on sponges. Dispose of the sponges and pour bleach in drains to kill the eggs. Tomatoes and bananas are the worst. They love them lol

Hanging plain old sticky fly tale above the concoction container. I had a HUGE infestation of these little pests earlier this summer, also spray them in mid air with a good sticky hairspray.... their wings get stiff and they fall out of the air...then wipe them up and toss em!

that is what i am having an issue with now, I thought they were fruit flies, but when all the fruit was put in the fridge we still had them. I am using cider vinegar in shallow bowls covered with saran, and there are a few accumulating in the bowls. I am going to use draino today and see if it makes a difference. A tip: partially cover the drains with clear tape, if they are on the sticky side after 24hrs, then they are drain flies.

If you keep your vacuum cleaner plugged in, and have the long wand attached and ready to go, it's amazing how many you can eliminate. I suggest doing this in addition to an apple cider trap.  
 
I had an infestation once and put all my fruit away and then discovered that they were hatching like crazy in some soft potatoes in the pantry.

Coffee grounds are a great way to plug a drain. Vapona strips hung near source will do the trick. Products for drain also. Use a glue board and take said bug to Poulins store and identify. Good luck.
