Hello everyone out there who drives in the earlier dark morning. TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!! I drove to work this morning and encountered several vehicles with no tail lights on. When your vehicle starts those are your daytime running lights and just appear in your head lights not your tail lights. I almost got into two accidents because of this and you know what? If there would have been an accident it would have been all your fault for not properly making yourself seen. Just because you can see doesn't mean other people can see you. So do us all a favor be safe and TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS!!!!!

you almost got into two different accidents because there lights aren't on? daytime running lights are on in the front yes and when a vehicle brakes there rear brake lights come on. You didn't happen to see any of these lights.. sounds like a distracted driver to me. and just to be clear if you rear end someone you are most likely at fault. just saying.

When you are coming up behind someone and they aren't braking there are NO DAM LIGHTS ON THE REAR END OF CARS. I wasn't distracted but when you are driving in the dark and the vehicle in front of you is black you cannot see it until you are on their a$$.  

In that case, the collision would be partially your fault as well. You are still required to drive at a safe speed which leaves adequate braking time in case of an obstruction in the road. What if there's a barricade, animal, stalled car, etc.

I agree with the OP. Many new vehicles are equipped with digital dashboards which are lit up whenever the vehicle is running. Coupled with the daytime running lights, it can appear to the driver that their lights are indeed on.  
 
It's going to be impossible to train all the drivers out there to 'turn on the running lights', so the vehicles makers should just make 'Daytime Running Lights' light up the front,rear and sides of the vehicle.

This is a HUGE issue. I encounter it daily as well and it's a huge problem.  
 
PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE YOUR DASH IS LIT DOESN'T MEAN ALL YOUR LIGHTS ARE ON!!!!!  
 
I too have also wondered why it couldn't be the rear lights lit when day time running lights are on.

... I see your point but lets be honest, if the car in front of you isn't braking and you're still coming up on it so fast that you almost rear ended it, you must be driving pretty dang fast and unsafe...just MHO.

i agree that it makes it easier to see if they turn their lights on so for my safety i do BUUUT im not sure why you are so outraged when you are making a driving error as well, you are not supposed to out drive your head lights, meaning if you cannot break in the distance you can see then you are going to fast, period!  
 
So i do agree that you should turn your lights on, they probably forget more now most come on automatically at night and hopefully soon manufactures will add tail lights to day time running lights but you also need to slow down because you cant control every danger thus you have to drive defensibly

See it all the time. Completely dark out, two dim daytime running lights coming toward you on the highway, then the car goes by and the back is totally dark. Agree with the OP, dangerous when you are coming up behind and no tail lights, just a glow of the DRL on the shoulders. I don't know how they can even see the road at 100km with just the daytime running lights on. Talk about out driving your lights.  

With todays technology, every car should come with automatic headlights. They've been around for years on many vehicles. Would solve some of the problem.  
 
Having said that, I've seen many vehicles that don't have daytime running lights. And they are newer vehicles, 2000 and newer. This shouldn't be allowed.

Why are there people even jabbing arguments at this. It's dark...turn your light switch and your lights come on...duh?? As a trucker I run into this almost every day, especially on the hilly sections of #10. Come over a hill, oh look! Somebody going 90km/hr with no lights on before sun up. BRILLIANT!

Another issue I find is that when its raining and you have to use your wpiers,why do the taillights not comeon.  
It can be a light rain,but light colored vehicles are very hard to see from the rear with the spray they cause.  
Manufactors comeup with all kind os safety gadgets,but this is one that just isn't there.  
Pretty simple I would imagine,when ever the wipers are on,the tail lights are on.
